Contemporary Western
Contemporary Western is a sub-genre of the Western genre that includes contemporary settings and use Old West themes, archetypes, and motifs, such as a rebellious antihero, open plains and desert landscapes, or gunfights. This sub-genre also includes the Post-Western, neo-Western, Urban Western genres with modern settings and "the cowboy cult" that involve the audience's feelings and understanding of Western movies. The contemporary Western "partly involves attempting to combine or reconcile the conventions of an older popular form with those of contemporary cinema." A neo-Western can be said to use Western themes set in the present day. The Western is a genre Setting (narrative), set in the American frontier and commonly associated with Americana (culture), folk tales of the Western United States, particularly the Southwestern United States, as well as Northern Mexico and Western Canada. ''Local iQ'' was a free arts, culture, and entertainment biweekly magazine published in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It featured information about various artists, celebrities, and entertainers within New Mexico's largest city, and was distributed to subscribers across New Mexico's largest markets. Its coverage spanned art, fashion, entertainment, design, food, architecture, travel and more. Francine Maher Hopper is the founder and the publisher.
