Conditional Sacraments
A conditional sacrament or sacrament ''sub conditione'' ("under condition") is in some Christian denominations a sacrament administered "on the condition that the faithful eceiving it isable and legitimately entitled to receive the sacrament". An example of conditional sacrament is conditional baptism. Conditional sacraments are practised by the Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Church of England, and Methodism. Conditional sacraments are usually performed when there is doubt the previous sacrament(s) was (were) performed or valid, as receiving some specific sacraments more than once is considered impossible in the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. Christians () are people who follow or adhere to Christianity, a monotheistic Abrahamic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Sacramental Matter And Form
According to Catholic theology, the sacraments of the Catholic Church can be described in their matter and form. Description The terminology of ''form'' and ''matter'' to describe the sacraments seems to have been first proposed by William of Auxerre. However, the ''Catholic Encyclopedia'' states this conceptual view of the sacraments was already present in Augustine of Hippo's writings. Hugh George De Willmott Newman
Hugh George de Willmott Newman (17 January 1905 – 28 February 1979) was an Independent Catholic or independent Old Catholic bishop. He was known religiously as Mar Georgius I and bore the titles, among others, of Patriarch of Glastonbury, Catholicos of the West, and sixth British Patriarch. He was the head of the Catholicate of the West from when he became a bishop, in 1944, until his death in 1979. Newman was first consecrated bishop by William Bernard Crow, the leader of the Order of Holy Wisdom, in 1944. Willmott Newman is notable for having subsequently undergone numerous ceremonies of reconsecration, thereby laying claim to numerous different lines of historic apostolic succession. Rebaptism in Christianity is the baptism of a person who has previously been baptized, usually in association with a denomination that does not recognize the validity of the previous baptism. When a denomination rebaptizes members of another denomination, it is a sign of significant differences in theology. Ex Opere Operato
''Ex opere operato'' is a Latin phrase meaning "from the work performed" and, in reference to sacraments, signifies that they derive their efficacy, not from the minister or recipient (which would mean that they derive it ''ex opere operantis'', meaning "from the agent's activity"), but from the sacrament considered independently of the merits of the minister or the recipient. According to the ''ex opere operato'' interpretation of the sacraments, any positive effect comes not from their worthiness or faith but from the sacrament as an instrument of God. Validity And Liceity (Catholic Church)
Validity and liceity are concepts in the Catholic Church. Validity designates an action which produces the effects intended; an action which does not produces the effects intended is considered "invalid". Liceity designates an action which has been performed legitimately; an action which has not been performed legitimately is considered "illicit". Some actions can be illicit, but still be valid. Catholic canon law also lays down rules for ''licit'', also called ''lawful'', placing of the act, along with criteria to determine its validity or invalidity. Apostolic Succession
Apostolic succession is the method whereby the ministry of the Christian Church is held to be derived from the apostles by a continuous succession, which has usually been associated with a claim that the succession is through a series of bishops. Those of the Anglican, Church of the East, Eastern Orthodox, Hussite, Moravian, Old Catholic, Oriental Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Scandinavian Lutheran traditions maintain that "a bishop cannot have regular or valid orders unless he has been consecrated in this apostolic succession". Independent Sacramental Movement
The independent sacramental movement (ISM) refers to a loose collection of individuals and Christian denominations which are not part of the historic sacramental Christian denominations embodying catholicity (such as the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, and Anglican churches) and yet continue to practice the historic sacramental rites independently. The term was used in 2005 by John Plummer, in ''The Many Paths of the Independent Sacramental Movement'', and was used earlier, in 2002, by Richard Smoley in his ''Inner Christianity''.
