Community Youth Development (CYD) is a philosophy emphasizing the symbiotic nature of youth development to community development The United Nations defines community development as "a process where community members come together to take collective action and generate solutions to common problems." Symbiotic
Symbiosis (from Greek , , "living together", from , , "together", and , bíōsis, "living") is any type of a close and long-term biological interaction between two different biological organisms, be it mutualistic, commensalistic, or parasitic. Youth Development
Positive youth development (PYD) programs are designed to optimize youth developmental progress. ''Youth.gov'' states that "PYD is an intentional, prosocial approach that engages youth within their communities, schools, organizations, peer groups, and families in a manner that is productive and constructive; recognizes, utilizes, and enhances young people’s strengths; and promotes positive outcomes for young people by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships, and furnishing the support needed to build on their leadership strengths." Cultural framework is a term used in social science to explain traditions, value systems, myths and symbols that are common in a given society.
