Chief Justice Of Queensland
The chief justice of Queensland is the senior judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the highest ranking judicial officer in the Australian state of Queensland. The chief justice is both the judicial head of the Supreme Court, as well as the administrative head, responsible for arranging the business of the court and establishing its rules and procedures. The current chief justice is Helen Bowskill, , who was sworn in on 22 March 2022. Justice Bowskill is the second female chief justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland after her predecessor, Catherine Holmes SC. Supreme Court Of Queensland
The Supreme Court of Queensland is the highest court in the Australian State of Queensland. It was formerly the Brisbane Supreme Court, in the colony of Queensland. The original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court allows its trial division to hear civil matters involving claims of more than 750,000; criminal matters involving serious offences (including murder and manslaughter); and matters arising under the '' Corporations Act 2001'' (Cth) and cross-vesting legislation. A jury decides whether the defendant is guilty or not guilty. The division also hears all civil matters involving amounts of more than 750,000. A jury may decide these disputes. Neal Macrossan
Neal William Macrossan (1889–1955) was a lawyer, judge and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland. Early years Macrossan was born on 27 April 1889 at Lutwyche in Queensland. He was the eighth and youngest child of Australian politician John Murtagh Macrossan and Bridget Macrossan (née Queely). He was educated at the Normal School in Brisbane. There he won a scholarship and attended at St. Joseph's Nudgee College. In 1904 whilst studying at St Joseph's, he was awarded the T J Byrnes medal for obtaining the highest pass mark in Queensland. In 1906 he again topped the State at the senior level. He also won a silver medal for Greek and was selected as the Rhodes scholar for Queensland in 1907. Macrossan studied at Magdalen College, Oxford. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts with honours in 1910 and obtained a Master of Arts in 1914 from Oxford. Timothy Francis Carmody (born 18 May 1956) is an Australian judge who was the Chief Justice of Queensland between 8 July 2014 and 1 July 2015. His previous roles include work as a police officer, barrister, Queensland Crime Commissioner, Family Court of Australia judge, and Chief Magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Queensland. He also presided over the 2013 Child Protection Commission of Inquiry. Paul De Jersey
Paul de Jersey, (born 21 September 1948) is an Australian jurist who served as the 26th governor of Queensland, in office from 29 July 2014 to 1 November 2021. He was Chief Justice of Queensland from 1998 to 2014. Education De Jersey was educated at Anglican Church Grammar School (1961–1965) and the University of Queensland. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours in 1971. He was part of the Queensland University Regiment from 1966 to 1971 and was commissioned in 1969. John Murtagh Macrossan (judge)
John Murtagh Macrossan (12 March 1930 – 5 August 2008) was a distinguished barrister, chancellor and judge in Queensland, Australia. He was the 16th Chief Justice of Queensland and the third person from the Macrossan family to occupy that position. His grandfather John Murtagh Macrossan was Colonial Secretary for Queensland and his two uncles Hugh Denis Macrossan and Neal William Macrossan were also Chief Justice of Queensland. Early years Macrossan was born on 12 March 1930 to Vincent and Dorothy Macrossan (née Brown). He was named after his grandfather of the same name who was member of the Queensland Parliament. Dormer Andrews
Sir Dormer George (Bob) Andrews (8 April 1919 – 28 June 2004) was a judge in Queenland, Australia. He was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland. Education and military service Andrews was born in Brisbane. He attended Taringa State primary school and St Joseph's College, Nudgee before enrolling at the University of Queensland in 1939. In 1940 he enlisted in the Royal Air Force, first in No. 61 OTU in Britain and then in No. 127 Squadron in the Western Desert. In October 1942 the Hurricane fighter he was flying was shot down and he sustained severe injuries that resulted in the loss of his left arm. Sir Walter "Wally" Benjamin Campbell, (4 March 1921 – 4 September 2004) was an Australian judge, administrator and governor. Charles Wanstall
Sir Charles Gray Wanstall (17 February 1912 – 17 October 1999) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. He was also the Chief Justice of Queensland. Biography Wanstall was born at Brisbane, Queensland, the son of Ernest William Wanstall and his wife Emma (née Boyce). He attended state school in Roma and Gympie and then the Gympie High School (Secondary Education – Junior Certificate). Sir (John) Mostyn Hanger (3 January 190811 August 1980) was a judge in Queensland, Australia. He was Chief Justice of Queensland and Administrator of Queensland (deputy for the Governor of Queensland). Early years Hanger was born on 3 January 1908 at Rockhampton to parents Thomas Hanger and Myfanwy Granville-Jones. The governor of Queensland is the representative in the state of Queensland of the monarch of Australia.
