Classical Japanese
The classical Japanese language ( ''bungo'', "literary language"), also called "old writing" ( ''kobun''), sometimes simply called "Medieval Japanese" is the literary form of the Japanese language that was the standard until the early Shōwa period (1926–1989). It is based on Early Middle Japanese, the language as spoken during the Heian period (794–1185), but exhibits some later influences. Its use started to decline during the late Meiji period (1868–1912) when novelists started writing their works in the spoken form. Eventually, the spoken style came into widespread use, including in major newspapers, but many official documents were still written in the old style. After the end of World War II, most documents switched to the spoken style, although the classical style continues to be used in traditional genres, such as haiku and waka. Old laws are also left in the classical style unless fully revised. History Classical Japanese began to be written during the Heian pe ...

Oritaku Shiba No Ki
is an autobiographical text written by Japanese Edo-period scholar-official Arai Hakuseki (1657–1725). It describes Arai's ancestors, his childhood, and his work as an official of the Tokugawa government, providing an invaluable perspective on the Tokugawa government of his day. Title Hakuseki does not explain the meaning or significance of the title. The general view is that it is in reference to poem in the ''Shin Kokin Wakashū'' poetry anthology: :''omoiizuru ori taku shiba no yūkeburi musebu mo ureshi wasuregatami ni'' :At dusk when I think of the one who is no longer here, I am happy to choke on the smoke of the burning brushwood twigs. It is a memento of the one who I can not forget. This poem was written by Emperor Go-Toba. The smoke that he chokes is an illusion for sobbing for his wife Owari, who died in 1204. The smoke from the burning brushwood twigs reminds him of the smoke from her cremation ceremony. For Hakuseki, the one who he yearns for and can not forget ...

Rongo Kogi
In Māori mythology, Rongo or Rongo-mā-Tāne (also Rongo-hīrea, Rongo-marae-roa, and Rongo-marae-roa-a-Rangi) is a major god (''atua'') of cultivated plants, especially kumara (spelled ''kūmara'' in Māori), a vital crop. Other crops cultivated by Māori in traditional times included taro, yams (''uwhi''), cordyline (''tī''), and gourds (''hue''). Because of their tropical origin, most of these crops were difficult to grow except in the far north of the North Island, hence the importance of Rongo in New Zealand. He was also an important god of agriculture and god of war in the southern Cook Islands, especially on Mangaia where the Akaoro marae and Orongo marae were centres of his worship; where cooked taro was offered to him cited in to assure success in battle and the fertility of land. A legend concerning Rongo flying the first kite is told in the waiting room of Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room, in which Rongo is voiced by Ernest Tavares. Separation of the primord ...
