Canton Of Sancerre
The Canton of Sancerre is a canton situated in the Cher département and is in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. Geography An area of farming and winegrowing in the valley of the river Loire, in the northeastern part of the arrondissement of Bourges centred on the town of Sancerre. The altitude varies from 139m at Bannay to 392m at Sens-Beaujeu, with an average altitude of 219m. Sancerre
Sancerre () is a medieval hilltop town (ville) and commune in the Cher department, France overlooking the river Loire. It is noted for its wine. History Located in the area of Gaul settled by the powerful Celtic (Gaule Celtique) tribe, the Bituriges, or the "Kings of the World", and after their defeat at Bourges (Avaricum), part of Roman Aquitania. Some evidence points to the existence of an early hillside Roman temple dedicated to Julius Caesar; located on the Roman road (Gordaine) from Bourges to the river town of Gordona (Castle-Gordon), now Saint Thibault and Saint Satur. Name possibly derived from "Sacred to Caesar" and later Christianized to "Saint-Cere". During the Carolingian period there was a small village on the hillside, clustered around the Saint Romble Church. An Augustinian abbey was founded in Saint Satur in 1034. Bué
Bué () is a commune in the Cher department, located in the Centre-Val de Loire region, France. Geography A winegrowing and farming village situated northeast of Bourges at the junction of the D85 with the D955 and D923 roads. It is one of only a few communes allowed to produce Sancerre wines. Saint-Bouize () is a commune in the Cher department in central France. Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre (, literally ''Ménétréol under Sancerre'') is a commune in the Cher department in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. Geography A winegrowing and farming village situated by the banks of the rivers Vauvise and Loire and the Loire lateral canal, some northeast of Bourges, at the junction of the D9 with the D920 and the D307 roads. The Sauvignon blanc grapes grown here are used for Sancerre AOC wines. Menetou-Râtel is a commune in the Cher department in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. Geography A winegrowing and farming area comprising the village and several hamlets situated some northeast of Bourges, at the junction of the D85, D86 and the D923 roads.
