Cantilever (figure Skating)
The cantilever, also called layback spread eagle, is a figure skating element. Similar to the spread eagle, the skater travels along a deep edge. With knees bent, the skater bends their back backwards, parallel to the ice. It was invented by Werner Groebli, better known as "Mr. Frick", a long-time show skater with Ice Follies. More recently, it became one of Ilia Klimkin's, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva's, Alexandra Trusova's and Shoma Uno's signature moves. Shoma Uno also frequently uses the cantilever in exhibition performances. Werner Groebli
Frick and Frack were a comedic ice skating duo of Swiss skaters who went to the United States in 1937 and joined the original Ice Follies show. "Frick" was Werner Groebli (April 21, 1915 – April 14, 2008), born in Basel. "Frack" was Hans Rudolf "Hansruedi" Mauch (May 2, 1919 – June 4, 1979), also born in Basel. Frick and Frack were known for skating in Alpine '' Lederhosen'' and performing eccentric tricks on ice, including the "cantilever spread-eagle", created by Groebli; and Mauch's "rubber legs", twisting and bending his legs while skating in a spread eagle position. Only a few skaters have successfully performed the duo's routines since. Figure Skating
Figure skating is a sport in which individuals, pairs, or groups perform on figure skates on ice. It was the first winter sport to be included in the Olympic Games, when contested at the 1908 Olympics in London. The Olympic disciplines are men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance; the four individual disciplines are also combined into a team event, first included in the Winter Olympics in 2014. The non-Olympic disciplines include synchronized skating, Theater on Ice, and four skating. From intermediate through senior-level competition, skaters generally perform two programs (the short program and the free skate), which, depending on the discipline, may include spins, jumps, moves in the field, lifts, throw jumps, death spirals, and other elements or moves. Spread Eagle (figure Skating)
The spread eagle is one of the moves in the field in the sport of figure skating, in which a skater glides on both feet, the toes turned out to the sides, heels facing each other. It can be performed on either the inside or outside edges. It is commonly used as an entrance to jumps, adding to the difficulty level of that jump under the Code of Points. Ice Follies
The Ice Follies, formerly known as the Shipstads & Johnson Ice Follies, is a touring ice show featuring elaborate production numbers, similar in concept to Ice Capades. It was founded in 1936 by Eddie and Roy Shipstad, and Oscar Johnson. In later years, Olympic skaters such as Donald Jackson, Barbara Berezowski, Peggy Fleming, and Janet Lynn were in the cast. Ice Follies also featured novelty acts such as Frick and Frack and Richard Dwyer, who was billed as "Mr. Debonair". The production company is now called Ice Follies and Holiday on Ice, Inc., a subsidiary of Feld Entertainment which produces the shows under the Disney on Ice and "... on Ice" titles. Feld formed the new subsidiary from the Ice Follies and U.S. Holiday on Ice touring companies. Ilia Klimkin
Ilia Sergeyevich Klimkin (russian: Илья Серге́евич Климкин, born 15 August 1980) is a Russian former competitive figure skater. He is the 2003 Grand Prix Final silver medalist, the 2004 European bronze medalist, the 1999 World Junior champion, and a three-time Russian national silver medalist. Personal life Klimkin was born on 15 August 1980 in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. Career Klimkin's grandmother introduced him to skating at the age of four because she felt it would be good for his health. He was coached by Igor Rusakov for thirteen years until Rusakov's sudden death in July 2003. He was then coached by Viktor Kudriavtsev. Shoma Uno
is a Japanese figure skater. He is a three-time Olympic medalist ( 2018 silver, 2022 bronze, 2022 team bronze), the 2022 World champion and a two-time World silver medalist (2018, 2017), the 2022–23 Grand Prix Final champion, the 2019 Four Continents champion, the 2017 Asian Winter Games champion, and a five-time Japanese national champion (2016–2019, 2022). Liubov Ivanovna Ilyushechkina (russian: Любовь Ивановна Илюшечкина, born 5 November 1991) is a Russian-born Canadian pair skater. Ilyushechkina began competing for Canada with Dylan Moscovitch in 2014, and they were the 2017 Four Continents bronze medalists, two-time bronze medalists on the Grand Prix series, and three-time Canadian national medalists (silver in 2015 and 2017, bronze in 2016).
