Bulk Queue
In queueing theory, a discipline within the mathematical theory of probability, a bulk queue (sometimes batch queue) is a general queueing model where jobs arrive in and/or are served in groups of random size. Batch arrivals have been used to describe large deliveries and batch services to model a hospital out-patient department holding a clinic once a week, a transport link with fixed capacity and an elevator. Networks of such queues are known to have a product form stationary distribution under certain conditions. Under heavy traffic conditions a bulk queue is known to behave like a reflected Brownian motion. Queueing Theory
Queueing theory is the mathematical study of waiting lines, or queues. A queueing model is constructed so that queue lengths and waiting time can be predicted. Queueing theory is generally considered a branch of operations research because the results are often used when making business decisions about the resources needed to provide a service. Queueing theory has its origins in research by Agner Krarup Erlang when he created models to describe the system of Copenhagen Telephone Exchange company, a Danish company. The ideas have since seen applications including telecommunication, traffic engineering, computing and, particularly in industrial engineering, in the design of factories, shops, offices and hospitals, as well as in project management. Probability theory is the branch of mathematics concerned with probability. Although there are several different probability interpretations, probability theory treats the concept in a rigorous mathematical manner by expressing it through a set of axioms. Product Form Stationary Distribution
In probability theory, a product-form solution is a particularly efficient form of solution for determining some metric of a system with distinct sub-components, where the metric for the collection of components can be written as a product of the metric across the different components. Reflected Brownian Motion
In probability theory, reflected Brownian motion (or regulated Brownian motion, both with the acronym RBM) is a Wiener process in a space with reflecting boundaries. In the physical literature, this process describes diffusion in a confined space and it is often called confined Brownian motion. For example it can describe the motion of hard spheres in water confined between two walls. In queueing theory, a discipline within the mathematical theory of probability, Kendall's notation (or sometimes Kendall notation) is the standard system used to describe and classify a queueing node. D. G. Kendall proposed describing queueing models using three factors written A/S/''c'' in 1953 where A denotes the time between arrivals to the queue, S the service time distribution and ''c'' the number of service channels open at the node. In queueing theory, a discipline within the mathematical theory of probability, an M/M/1 queue represents the queue length in a system having a single server, where arrivals are determined by a Poisson process and job service times have an exponential distribution. The model name is written in Kendall's notation. The model is the most elementary of queueing models and an attractive object of study as closed-form expressions can be obtained for many metrics of interest in this model. GI/G/1 Queue
In queueing theory, a discipline within the mathematical theory of probability, the G/G/1 queue represents the queue length in a system with a single server where interarrival times have a general (meaning arbitrary) distribution and service times have a (different) general distribution. The evolution of the queue can be described by the Lindley equation. The system is described in Kendall's notation where the ''G'' denotes a general distribution for both interarrival times and service times and the 1 that the model has a single server. Different interarrival and service times are considered to be independent, and sometimes the model is denoted GI/GI/1 to emphasise this.
