Boxing At The 1958 Asian Games
The Boxing Tournament at the 1958 Asian Games was held in Korakuen Ice Palace, Tokyo, Japan from 28 to 31 May 1958. A total of 62 boxers from 11 nations competed. The host nation dominated the competition winning six out of ten gold medals, South Korea, Burma and Republic of China (Taiwan) won the remaining gold medals. Korakuen Hall
is a famous sports arena in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan, which has hosted many notable boxing, professional wrestling, kickboxing, mixed martial arts and Lethwei matches. History On April 16, 1962, the Korakuen Hall was officially opened with a capacity of approximately 2,000 people. It is located inside the Tokyo Dome City, one of Tokyo's biggest attractions. The venue hosted the boxing events for the 1964 Summer Olympics. In the area of pro wrestling, it is considered the Madison Square Garden of puroresu, as all of Japan's largest promotions have run some of their larger shows inside the hall, much akin to the WWF/E's monthly show at MSG in the 1980s. In March 2011, as the hall suffered structural damage under the influence of the Tōhoku earthquake, the events scheduled for the time being, including WBC triple female world title fight, were postponed or canceled. Kim Ki-soo
Kim Ki-soo (; September 17, 1939 – June 10, 1997) was a South Korean former professional boxer who competed from 1961 to 1969. He was South Korea's first world boxing champion, having held the undisputed WBA and WBC super-welterweight titles from 1966 to 1968. Amateur career Kim graduated from Kyung Hee University's College of Physical Education. He competed in boxing at the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo, where he earned the gold medal of the welterweight division by defeating Soren Pirjanian of Iran, on points, in the final. Kim Deuk-bong
Kim Deuk-bong (; born 20 January 1934) is a South Korean former boxer who competed as a light welterweight in the 1960 Summer Olympics. Kim lost his fourth fight, the quarterfinal match, to eventual silver-medalist Clement Quartey of Ghana. Amateur career Kim first drew attention at the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo where he protested against a decision by refusing to leave the ring after losing a controversial decision. When Kim fought Shigemasa Kawakami of Japan in the semifinal bout, he dominated his opponent in every round. However, when the judges' scores came up, Kim was judged to have lost to Kawakami. Seconds after the decision was made, Kim's entourage rushed the ring and his supporters in the stands began rioting, fighting with staff and policemen. Afterwards, Kim didn't leave the ring, sitting on a stool in his corner for hours. Vazik Kazarian aka Vazik Ghazarian ( hy, Վազիկ Ղազարեան; fa, وازیک قازاریان, born 4 May 1937 Bahmanshir, Khuzestan, Iran) was an Iranian Armenian boxer who became a member of Iran senior national Boxing team in 1956, and was also a member of Tehran Taj Club. Chung Dong-hoon (born 1932) also spelled Chung Dong-hun, is a former amateur boxer from South Korea. A native of Jeollanam-do, he graduated from Chosun University in Gwangju. He competed in the lightweight division at South Korea's April 1955 domestic Olympic national delegation qualifying tournament, and was victorious over Park Young-mu (朴英茂).
