Batch 10
Batch 10 is a name journalists have given to the tenth batch of former Saudi captives in Guantanamo, Saudi captives to be repatriated to Saudi Arabian custody. Five of the fourteen captives in this group repatriated to Saudi captivity on November 9, 2007 were among the eleven former Guantanamo captives to be listed on the 85 men on the Saudi list of most wanted suspected terrorists, published on February 3, 2009. One of the cohort, Said Ali al-Shihri, became second in command of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. According to Peter Taylor (journalist), Peter Taylor, reporting for the ''BBC'', his team found that the cohort of Saudis repatriated in November 2007 problematic. He reported that many of these captives were not rehabilitated. He reported that five of the fourteen men in batch 10 escaped to Yemen, and joined jihadists there. Saudi Captives In Guantanamo
A total of 133 Saudi citizens have been held in the United States' Guantanamo Bay detention camps at its naval base in Cuba since January 2002. Most had been swept up in Afghanistan following the US invasion in the fall of 2001, and they were classified by the US government as enemy combatants. In addition, a United States citizen, Yaser Esam Hamdi, who was born in Louisiana but moved as a child with his parents to Saudi Arabia, where he also had citizenship, was initially held there. As an American citizen, he was transferred to a military prison brig on the mainland of the United States. His challenge to his detention, without being informed of charges or brought to trial, was a case that reached the United States Supreme Court. In ''Hamdi v. Rumsfeld'' (2004), the Supreme Court ruled that detainees who are U.S. citizens must have the rights of due process, and the ability to challenge their enemy combatant status before an impartial authority.
