A buckaroo is a cowboy of the Great Basin and California region of the United States, from an Anglicization of the Spanish word ''vaquero''. Buckaroo Banzai (character)
''The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension'', often shortened to ''Buckaroo Banzai'', is a 1984 American science fiction film produced and directed by W. D. Richter and written by Earl Mac Rauch. It stars Peter Weller in the titular role, with Ellen Barkin, John Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum, and Christopher Lloyd. The Buckaroos
The Buckaroos were an American band led by Buck Owens in the 1960s and early 1970s, who, along with Merle Haggard's The Strangers (American band), The Strangers, were involved in the development and presentation of the "Bakersfield sound." Their peak of success was from 1965 to 1970. In 2005, Country Music Television, CMT named the Buckaroos No. 2 on its list of the 20 Greatest Country Music Bands. History Don Rich, Doyle Holly, Tom Brumley and Willie Cantu were the original members of the Buckaroos during the 1960s. The 1970s version included Don Rich, Jerry Wiggins, Jerry Brightman, Doyle Curtsinger, and Jim Shaw. Portland Buckaroos
The Portland Buckaroos was the name of several professional ice hockey teams based in Portland, Oregon. PCHL/NWHL era (1928–1941) The first incarnation of Portland Buckaroos played their home games at the Portland Ice Arena. The Buckaroos initially played in the four-team Pacific Coast Hockey League (PCHL) from 1928 to 1931. The PCHL folded in 1931, and in 1933, the Buckaroos joined the new North West Hockey League. In 1936, the Buckaroos rejoined the reconstituted four-team PCHL, and won league championships in 1937 and 1939. With the onset of World War II, the PCHL folded again in 1941. In 1944, it was again resurrected, but this time, Portland's team was the Portland Eagles (known as the ''Portland Penguins'' for one season). Buckaroo (February 13, 1975 – July 30, 1996) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse, best known as the sire of Horse of the Year Spend a Buck. Buckaroo was the Leading sire in North America of 1985. Background Buckaroo was bred in Kentucky by Greentree Stud and raced for Greentree Stable as a homebred. He was sired by Buckpasser, a Hall of Fame racehorse whose immense influence on the breed came mainly as a broodmare sire. Buckaroo's dam, Stepping High, was a stakes-placed daughter of No Robbery. Racing career Buckaroo made three starts at age two, earning one win in a maiden special weight race at Belmont Park. He made ten starts at age three, recording four wins including the Grade II Saranac Stakes and Grade III Peter Pan Stakes. He was also second in the Dwyer and Whitney Handicaps. Temco T-35 Buckaroo
The Temco T-35 Buckaroo (company designation TE-1) was designed in the late 1940s as an extremely low-cost trainer for commercial and military markets. Temco's failure to secure a United States Air Force order for the Buckaroo forced it to turn to non-U.S. governments to keep the production lines going, yet only a few export orders materialized. Design and development Early in 1948, Temco's president, Robert McCulloch, received an inquiry from the Philippine Government expressing an interest in a tandem trainer version of the Swift. The first TE-1A was a modification of the Swift GC-1B, hand-built to rough layout drawings, the major difference in appearance being the tandem seating arrangement which resulted in a narrow windshield and an elongated two-piece canopy with a fixed bubble at the rear. Pendleton Buckaroos
The Pendleton Buckaroos were a minor league baseball team based in Pendleton, Oregon. The Buckaroos were preceded by Pendleton teams that played as members of the Pacific Interstate League in 1891 and Inland Empire League in 1902 and 1908. The Buckaroos were members of the Class D level Western Tri-State League from 1912 to 1914. Pendleton won league championships in 1902 and 1914. The teams hosted all home minor league games at Round Up Park in Pendleton. The ''vaquero'' (; pt, vaqueiro, , ) is a horse-mounted livestock herder of a tradition that has its roots in the Iberian Peninsula and extensively developed in Mexico from a methodology brought to Latin America from Spain. The vaquero became the foundation for the North American cowboy. The ''vaqueros'' of the Americas were the horsemen and cattle herders of New Spain, who first came to California with the Jesuit priest Eusebio Kino in 1687, and later with expeditions in 1769 and the Juan Bautista de Anza expedition in 1774. They were the first cowboys in the region. In Alberta, Northern Mexico, and the Southwestern United States, especially in Texas the remnants of major and distinct ''vaquero'' traditions remain, most popular today as the Californio, Neomexicano, and Tejano traditions. A cowboy is an animal herder who tends cattle on ranches in North America, traditionally on horseback, and often performs a multitude of other ranch-related tasks. ''Buckaroo!'' is a game of physical skill, intended for players aged four and above. ''Buckaroo!'' is made by Milton Bradley, a division of the toy company Hasbro. Description The game centers on an articulated plastic model of a mule named "Roo" (or "Buckaroo"). The mule begins the game standing on all four feet, with a blanket on its back. Players take turns placing various items onto the mule's back without causing the mule to buck up on its front legs, throwing off all the accumulated items (the toy has a spring mechanism that is triggered by significant vibration). There are 12 different items players can stack onto the Mule. The player who triggered this buck is knocked out of the game, and play resumes. The winner is the last player remaining in the game. "Buckaroo" is a 1965 instrumental country single by Buck Owens & The Buckaroos. The single was Buck Owens' fourth No. 1 on the country chart in less than a year. "Buckaroo" spent 16 weeks on the chart. The B-side, entitled "If You Want A Love", peaked at No. 24 on the country chart weeks later. To date, it is the last instrumental to top the Hot Country Songs chart. "Buckaroo" was also performed live by The Byrds, and a version can be heard on their album '' Live at the Fillmore - February 1969''. The Kelowna Buckaroos were a Tier II Junior "A" ice hockey team from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. They were a part of the British Columbia Hockey League. :Kelowna Buckaroos 1961 - 1983 :Summerland Buckaroos 1983 - 1988 History The Kelowna Buckaroos are one of the original four of the British Columbia Hockey League. Breckenridge High School is a public high school located in the city of Breckenridge, Texas and classified as a 3A school by the UIL. It is a part of the Breckenridge Independent School District located in Stephens County. In 2013, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.
