Livid is a medium bluish-gray color. This color name comes from the Latin color term ''lividus'' meaning "'a dull leaden-blue color', and also used to describe the color of contused flesh, leading to the English expression 'black and blue'". The first recorded use of ''livid'' as a color name in English was in 1622. There is a range of colors called ''livid'' colors that combine the colors blue and gray. Blue-grey Tanager
The blue-gray tanager (''Thraupis episcopus'') is a medium-sized South American songbird of the tanager family, Thraupidae. Its range is from Mexico south to northeast Bolivia and northern Brazil, all of the Amazon Basin, except the very south. It has been introduced to Lima (Peru). On Trinidad and Tobago, this bird is called blue jean. Taxonomy In 1760 the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson included a description of the blue-grey tanager in his ''Ornithologie'' based on a specimen collected in Brazil. He used the French name ''L'evesque'' and the Latin name ''Episcopus avis''. Argyria
Argyria or argyrosis is a condition caused by excessive exposure to chemical compounds of the element silver, or to silver dust. The most dramatic symptom of argyria is that the skin turns blue or blue-grey. It may take the form of ''generalized argyria'' or ''local argyria''. Generalized argyria affects large areas over much of the visible surface of the body. Local argyria shows in limited regions of the body, such as patches of skin, parts of the mucous membrane or the conjunctiva. The terms argyria and argyrosis have long been used interchangeably, with argyria being used more frequently. The blue-gray mouse (''Pseudomys glaucus'') is an Australian rodent species that is only known by a few specimens found in Eastern Australia, and since presumed to have become extinct. Taxonomy The species was described by Oldfield Thomas in 1910. The number of specimens identified as ''Pseudomys glaucus'' is limited to three, two found in the northeastern state of Queensland and a single specimen collected to the south at Cryon in New South Wales. Description A species of ''Pseudomys'', these Australian rodents resembled the familiar house mouse (''Mus musculus''). The body of ''P. glaucus'' was robust with fine and dense fur, white at the underside and a pale blue-grey colour over the upperparts of the fur. Blue Grey Cattle
The Blue Grey is a cattle hybrid traditional in south-western Scotland and north-western England. It is blue roan in colour, and results from breeding a black Galloway cow to a white Shorthorn bull. It is reared principally as a suckler cow, and is particularly well suited to upland grazing. History In south-western Scotland and north-western England, Shorthorn bulls were used from the early nineteenth century on black Galloway cows to produce vigorous hybrid calves. If the bull was white, the calf was blue roan in colour; these were easily recognisable and were much in demand. In the later nineteenth century, selection of the Whitebred Shorthorn was begun specifically to supply white sires for production of these calves. ''Calliphora livida'' is a member of the family Calliphoridae, the blow flies. This large family includes the genus ''Calliphora'', the "blue bottle flies". This genus is important in the field of forensic entomology because of its value in post-mortem interval estimation. A metallic color is a color that appears to be that of a polished metal. The visual sensation usually associated with metals is its metallic shine. This cannot be reproduced by a simple solid color, because the shiny effect is due to the material's brightness varying with the surface angle to the light source. In addition, there is no mechanism for showing metallic or fluorescent colors on a computer without resorting to rendering software which simulates the action of light on a shiny surface. Consequently in art and in heraldry one would normally use a metallic paint that glitters like a real metal.
