Attorney General Of Michigan
The Attorney General of the State of Michigan is the fourth-ranking official in the U.S. state of Michigan. The officeholder is elected statewide in the November general election alongside the governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, members of the Senate and members of the House of Representatives. Since the Michigan Constitution of 1963 was adopted, the attorney general has served a term of four years. The officeholder is also limited to two terms, for a total of eight possible years of service; ten possible years of service if the officeholder serves two full terms and less than half of one term as a replacement. Inasmuch as the office of Attorney General has common law powers as the chief law enforcement officer of the State, he may exercise the powers of a peace officer and may appoint special agents having this status to assist him in enforcing his powers and carrying out his functions (AG Opinion No. 5236,10/20/1977). Dana Nessel
Dana Michelle Nessel (born April 19, 1969) is an American politician and lawyer serving as the 54th Attorney General of Michigan since January 2019. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Nessel is the second openly lesbian woman elected attorney general of a state in the United States (after Maura Healey) and the first openly LGBT person elected to statewide office in Michigan. She is also the first Jewish person elected Attorney General of Michigan. In 2014, Nessel successfully argued for the plaintiffs in ''DeBoer v. Charles Upson
Charles Upson (March 19, 1821 – September 5, 1885) was a politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. Upson was born in Southington, Connecticut, to Lydia (Webster) Upson (1781–1861) and Asahel Upson (1783–1867). He attended the district and select schools of Southington and later taught school in Farmington from 1840 to 1842. He married Sophia Upham on August 4, 1852. Upson studied law at the Yale Law School in 1844 and moved to Constantine, Michigan the following year. He taught school in 1846 and 1847 and became deputy county clerk of St. Joseph County in 1847. William Hale (18091874) was a Michigan politician and attorney. Early life Hale was born in 1809 in Oneida County, New York. Edward Mundy (April 14, 1794 – May 13, 1851) was an American politician and judge from the U.S. state of Michigan, and served as its first lieutenant governor. Early life Mundy was born in Middlesex County, New Jersey, and graduated from Rutgers College in 1812. In later years was for one of the appointed Regents of the University.
