In September 2006 it absorbed the two communes of Le Port and La Possession from the arrondissement of Saint-Denis, and it lost the two communes of Les Avirons and L'Étang-Salé to the arrondissement of Saint-Pierre. Saint-Paul, Réunion
Saint-Paul () is the second-largest commune in the French overseas department of Réunion. It is located on the extreme west side of the island of Réunion. Until 1999, near Saint Paul there was the 428 metres tall mast OMEGA Chabrier transmitter. Population Transport Saint-Paul was to be the western terminus of the proposed Réunion Tram Train. However, the project was abandoned in May 2010 due to a lack of funds. Les Trois-Bassins is a commune in the department of Réunion. It is found on the west coast of the island, and the summit of Grand Bénare lies within its borders. The commune borders Cilaos to the west, Saint-Paul to the north and Saint-Leu to the south. The commune of Trois-Bassins was created on 27 February 1897. La Possession () is a commune in the French overseas department of Réunion. It is located on the northwest side of the island of Réunion, between the capital of Saint-Denis and the commune of Le Port. To the territory of this commune belongs the major part of the Cirque of Mafate, a caldera of the dormant Piton des Neiges volcano. It is part of the Réunion National Park.
