Cholet (, , probably from Latin language, Latin ''cauletum'', "cabbage") is a Communes of France, commune of western France in the Maine-et-Loire Departments of France, department. With 54,307 inhabitants (2019), it is the second most populous commune of Maine-et-Loire, after the Prefectures in France, prefecture Angers. Geography Cholet stands on an eminence on the right bank of the river Moine (river), Moine, which is crossed by a bridge from the fifteenth century. It is about 50 km southeast of Nantes. Saint-Léger-sous-Cholet (, literally ''Saint-Léger under Cholet'') is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France. History Before the French Revolution, the town and the north of the village (Haut-Saint-Léger) depended on Le May-sur-Èvre, the south (Bas-Saint-Léger) on Mortagne-sur-Sèvre. The town was created by decree of Emperor Napoleon III on 14 December 1863, its territory was then a section of the town of Le May-sur-Evre. From 1899 to 1947, the town was crossed by the Petit Anjou railway line (Cholet-Nantes, via Beaupréau and Le Loroux-Bottereau) which had a station there. Saint-Christophe-du-Bois () is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France. History According to an unconfirmed tradition recorded in 1705, Saint Maurille, bishop of Angers, was the founder of Saint-Christophe in the 4th century. A legend also reports that the first inhabitants of the town, having undertaken the construction of their village at a place called La Binaudière, drew an auspicious omen from a flock of crows which fell on them and carried branches to at the location of the present town.
