The (Basque for "oxen tests") are the most popular form of Basque dragging games. It involves oxen, usually a pair, dragging a rock from one side of a square to another. In Spanish this sport is called (stone dragging) or (oxherd test) and (oxen competition) in French. Location Although ''idi probak'' can in theory be carried out on any reasonably flat surface, the preference is to conduct them on specially constructed ''proba tokiak'' (test places). Drawing Straws
Drawing straws is a selection method, or a form of sortition, that is used by a group to choose one member of the group to perform a task after none has volunteered for it. The same practice can be used also to choose one of several volunteers, should an agreement not be reached. It is a form of the practice of drawing lots, only using straws instead. Process The group leader takes a number of straws (or similarly long cylindrical objects) and ensures that one of them is physically shorter than the others. The leader then grabs all of the straws in their fist, such that all of them appear to be of the same length. The group leader offers the clenched fist to the group. Each member of the group draws a straw from the fist of the group leader. At the end of the offering, the group member who has drawn the shortest straw is the one who must perform the task. Bertsolaritza or bertsolarism is the art of singing extemporaneously composed songs in Basque according to various melodies and rhyming patterns. Bertsos can be composed at a variety of occasions but are performed generally by one or various ''bertsolaris'' onstage in an event arranged for the purpose or as a sideshow, in homage ceremonies, in benefit lunches and suppers, with friends or at a competition. Such a sung piece of composition is called a ''bertso'', the person who sings it is called a ''bertsolari'' and the art of composing bertsos is called ''bertsolaritza'' in Basque. Traditionally these were sung by men but there is an increasing number of young female bertsolaris today. Berriatua is a town and municipality located in the province of Biscay, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country, in the north of Spain.
