Area Code 228
Area code 228 is the telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the Gulf Coast in the U.S. state of Mississippi, serving the three counties in the state's southeastern tip: Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson. It was the second area code created in the state, when in 1997, the numbering plan area was split from the original, state-wide area code 601. Area code 601 was further reduced in size when area code 662 was created in 1999 for the northern half of Mississippi. Exhaustion analysis of this small numbering plan area shows that exhaustion is unlikely for the foreseeable future. Service area Area code 228 serves the following cities: *Bay St. Louis *Biloxi * D'Iberville * Diamondhead * Gautier * Gulfport *Long Beach * Moss Point *Ocean Springs *Pascagoula *Pass Christian * Vancleave * Waveland See also List of Mississippi area codes References External links Telecommunications-related introductions in 1997 228 228 Year 228 ( CCXXVIII) was ...

Area Codes MS
Area is the quantity that expresses the extent of a region on the plane or on a curved surface. The area of a plane region or ''plane area'' refers to the area of a shape or planar lamina, while ''surface area'' refers to the area of an open surface or the boundary of a three-dimensional object. Area can be understood as the amount of material with a given thickness that would be necessary to fashion a model of the shape, or the amount of paint necessary to cover the surface with a single coat. It is the two-dimensional analogue of the length of a curve (a one-dimensional concept) or the volume of a solid (a three-dimensional concept). The area of a shape can be measured by comparing the shape to squares of a fixed size. In the International System of Units (SI), the standard unit of area is the square metre (written as m2), which is the area of a square whose sides are one metre long. A shape with an area of three square metres would have the same area as three such squares. ...

Area Codes In The United States
The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) divides the territories of its members into geographic numbering plan areas (NPAs). Each NPA is identified by one or more numbering plan area codes (''NPA codes'', or ''area codes''), consisting of three digits that are prefixed to each local telephone number having seven digits. Numbering plan areas may be assigned multiple area codes to provide adequate numbering resources, in which case the local numbering plan is called an overlay. Area codes are also assigned for non-geographic purposes. The rules for numbering NPAs do not permit the digits ''0'' and ''1'' as the leading digit, which also applies for central office codes.AT&T (1955) ''Notes on Distance Dialing'' NPAs with ''9'' as the second digit are reserved for future format expansion. Area codes with two identical trailing digits are considered easily recognizable codes (ERC), which are reserved, or used for systemwide services. Area codes in numerical order 200–299 300–399 ...

Area Code 985
Area code 985 is the telephone area code for southeastern Louisiana, excluding the inner ring of the New Orleans area. The area code was created in 2001 when it was split off from area code 504. Area code 985 also used to include areas southeast of New Orleans. However, in 2007, these areas switched back to 504. These communities are on both sides of the Mississippi River in "lower" Plaquemines Parish, including Pointe à la Hache on the east bank, with Port Sulphur, Buras, and Boothville on the west bank. The area's local switching facilities were almost destroyed due to flooding from Hurricane Katrina. Since the nearest switching facilities were in New Orleans, it was decided to put these downriver communities back in 504. Permissive use of 504 alongside 985 to reach these areas once again began on July 29, 2007; mandatory use of 504 began on July 1, 2008. Area Code 251
Area code 251 is a telephone numbering plan code covering southwestern Alabama serving Mobile, Baldwin, and Washington counties and parts of six other counties. It was created on June 18, 2001, as a split from area code 334. In order to allow people time to reprogram electronics such as computers, cell phones, pagers and fax machines, use of the 334 area code continued in the 251 areas through January 7, 2002. Prior to October 2021, area code 251 had telephone numbers assigned for the central office code 988. In 2020, ''988'' was designated nationwide as a dialing code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, which created a conflict for exchanges that permit seven-digit dialing. This area code was therefore scheduled to transition to ten-digit dialing by October 24, 2021. Area Codes 601 And 769
Area codes 601 and 769 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for central and southern Mississippi, excluding the three counties of the Gulf Coast. Area code 601 was one of the original North American area codes assigned in 1947. Until 1997, it served the entire state of Mississippi. Despite the state's relatively stagnant population growth, 601 was close to exhaustion by the mid-1990s due to the proliferation of cell phones and pagers. In 1997, the far southeastern tip of the state, including Biloxi and the Gulf Coast, was split off as area code 228. In 1999, area code 662 was created in the northern half of Mississippi, including the Mississippi side of the Memphis area. The 1999 split was intended as a long-term solution, but within five years, 601 was close to exhaustion due to the proliferation of cell phones, particularly in the Jackson area. In 2006, Mississippi's first overlay area code, 769, was approved for use to overlay 601. Ten-di ...
