''Ammu'' is a 2022 Indian Telugu-language drama thriller film written and directed by Charukesh Sekar and produced by Stone Bench Films. The film features Aishwarya Lekshmi, Naveen Chandra, and Bobby Simha in primary roles and premiered on Amazon Prime Video on 19 October 2022. Roy's debut novel, it is a story about the childhood experiences of fraternal twins whose lives are destroyed by the "Love Laws" prevalent in 1960s Kerala, India. The novel explores how small, seemingly insignificant things shape people's behavior and their lives. The novel also explores the lingering effects of casteism in India. It won the Booker Prize in 1997. ''The God of Small Things'' was Roy's first book and only novel until the 2017 publication of ''The Ministry of Utmost Happiness'' twenty years later. Abhirami Sundar better known by her stage name Ammu Abhirami is an Indian actress who has appeared in Tamil and Telugu films. Ammu Swaminathan or A. V. Ammakuti (22 April 1894 – 4 July 1978) was an Indian social worker and political activist during the Indian independence movement and a member of the Constituent Assembly of India. Early life Ammukutty Swaminadhan was born into the Vadakkath family of Anakkara in Ponnani taluk, Kerala. Her father, Govinda Menon, was a minor local official. Both of Ammu's parents belonged to the Nair caste, and she was the youngest of their thirteen children, which included nine daughters. Ammu never went to school and received only a rudimentary education at home, which consisted of minimal reading and writing in Malayalam, cooking and keeping house, to prepare her for married life. She lost her father at a very young age, and her mother struggled to raise her children and arrange marriages for her many daughters.
