Alpine Skiing At The 1952 Winter Olympics – Women's Slalom
A women's slalom event was held at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, Norway as part of the alpine skiing programme. On 24 January, a decision was taken that Rødkleiva would hold the slalom events, but at that time there was only of snow at the site and additional work lasting three days had to be done to ensure the hill would be usable for training and the races.Organising Committee for the VI Olympic Winter Games, p. 201. Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Celina Seghi (6 March 1920 – 27 July 2022) was an Italian alpine skier. Born in Abetone, Tuscany, she was the youngest child in a family of nine and earned her first Italian championship medal, a bronze in the slalom, in 1934. __NOTOC__ Biography In 1937 Seghi earned three national titles, her first victories at that level, by winning the slalom, downhill, and combined events. Jannette Weston Burr (April 30, 1927 – July 26, 2022) was an American former professional alpine skier from Sun Valley, Idaho. She learned to ski in Sun Valley and competed in races across the globe during the 1950s, winning medals in many of them. In 1970, she was inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. Trude Beiser (after her marriage Trude Jochum-Beiser; born 2 September 1927) is a former alpine ski racer from Austria. Born in Lech am Arlberg in Vorarlberg, she won two Olympic gold medals and a world championship. Beiser was the first female Austrian skier to win two Olympic gold medals at two Olympic Winter Games. Competitive Career Beiser's racing career consisted of five total competitions, two in the 1950 FIS World Ski Championships and three in the Winter Olympics of 1948 and 1952 (which also counted as FIS competitions, thus, her scoreboard holds eight total competitions).
