Aiki-jō
Aiki-jō (Kanji: 合気杖 Hiragana: あいきじょう) is the name given specifically to the set of martial art techniques practiced with a '' jō'' (a wooden staff about four feet long), according to the principles of aikido. Jō techniques were introduced into aikido by Morihei Ueshiba, aikido's founder,Lowry, D. (1987): ''Jo: Art of the Japanese short staff'' (p. 27). Burbank, CA: Ohara. Kanji
are the logographic Chinese characters taken from the Chinese family of scripts, Chinese script and used in the writing of Japanese language, Japanese. They were made a major part of the Japanese writing system during the time of Old Japanese and are still used, along with the subsequently-derived syllabic scripts of ''hiragana'' and ''katakana''. Russo-Japanese War

Hassō-no-kamae
, frequently shortened simply to ''hassō'' and occasionally called ''hassō-gamae'', is one of the five stances in kendo: ''jōdan'', ''chūdan'', ''gedan'', ''hassō'', and '' waki''. It is an offensive stance, named for one's ability to respond to a situation in any direction. ''Waki'' and ''hassō'' are not commonly used in modern kendo, except in kata.
