Action (narrative)
In literature, action is the physical movement of the Character (arts), characters. Action as a literary mode "Action is the Mode (literature), mode [that] fiction writers use to show what is happening at any given moment in the story," states Evan Marshall (agent), Evan Marshall, who identifies five fiction-writing modes: action, summary, dialogue, feelings/thoughts, and background. In fiction, a character (or speaker, in poetry) is a person or other being in a narrative (such as a novel, play, radio or television series, music, film, or video game). The character may be entirely fictional or based on a real-life person, in which case the distinction of a "fictional" versus "real" character may be made. Mode (literature)
In literature and other artistic media, a mode is an unspecific critical term usually designating a broad but identifiable kind of literary method, mood, or manner that is not tied exclusively to a particular form or genre. Examples are the ''satiric'' mode, the ''ironic'', the ''comic'', the ''pastoral'', and the ''didactic''. Peter Selgin (; born 1957) is an American novelist, short story writer, playwright, essayist, editor, and illustrator. Selgin is Associate Professor of English at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia. Biography The son of Italian immigrants, Peter Selgin was born in Bethesda, Maryland, grew up in Bethel, Connecticut, and attended Bethel High School. Dialogue In Writing
Dialogue, in literature, is a verbal exchange between two or more characters (but can also involve strategic use of silence). If there is only ''one'' character talking aloud, it is a monologue. Identifiers ''"This breakfast is making me sick," George said.'' The ''George said'' is the identifier. ''Said'' is the verb most writers use because reader familiarity with ''said'' prevents it from drawing attention to itself. Although other verbs such as ''ask'', ''shout'', or ''reply'' are acceptable, some identifiers get in the reader's way. For example: ''"Hello," he croaked nervously, "my name's Horace."'' Narration is the use of a written or spoken commentary to storytelling, convey a narrative, story to an audience. Narration is conveyed by a narrator: a specific person, or unspecified literary voice, developed by the creator of the story to deliver information to the audience, particularly about the Plot (narrative), plot (the series of events). Action fiction is a literary genre that focuses on stories that involve high-stakes, high-energy, and fast-paced events. In literature, pace, or pacing is the speed at which a story is told—not necessarily the speed at which the story takes place. The number of words needed to write about a certain event does not depend upon how much time the event takes to happen; it depends upon how important that moment is to the story. The pace is determined by the length of the scenes, how fast the action moves, and how quickly the reader is provided with information. It is also sometimes dictated by the genre of the story: comedies move faster than dramas; action adventures move faster than suspense.
