Avtar Singh (born 3 April 1992) is an Indian judoka who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Personal life Singh was born on 3 April 1992 in Gurdaspur, Punjab, India. Whilst growing up in Kothe Ghurala village, he spent time working on his parents farm. He works as an assistant sub inspector for the Punjab Police (India), Punjab Police. Judo He represented India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. In the Judo at the 2014 Commonwealth Games – Men's 90 kg, men's middleweight event, he was defeated by eventual silver medallist Matthew Purssey of Scotland in the round of 16. He is best known for his leadership role in the design and development of Pentium processor at Intel. Pash (9 September 1950 – 23 March 1988) was the pen name of Avtar Singh Sandhu, one of the major poets in the Punjabi literature of the 1970s. He was killed by extremists on 23 March 1988. His strongly left-wing views were reflected in his poetry. Early life and activism Pash was born as Avtar Singh Sandhu in 1950 in a small village called ''Talwandi Salem'' in Jalandhar district of Punjab, in a middle-class farmers family. His father Sohan Singh Sandhu was a soldier in the Indian army who also composed poetry as a hobby. Pash grew up in the midst of the Naxalite movement, a revolutionary movement waged in Punjab against the landlords, industrialists, traders, etc. who control the means of production. Avtar Singh Atwal
Avtar Singh Atwal was a Deputy Inspector General in Punjab Police. He was murdered by a follower of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale at the steps of Golden temple while coming out after prayers on 25 April 1983 His murder set in motion a chain of events that led to the commencement of the Operation Blue Star. He was a posthumous recipient of President's Police Medal for Gallantry. Personal life He was survived by his wife and son. His wife Amrita Atwal later joined the Punjab Civil Services and retired as an IAS officer. His son, Harbir Atwal, also joined the Punjab Police as an Inspector, currently serving as a SP. Death On 23 April 1983, while serving as the DIG of Police Jalandhar range, Atwal visited the Golden Temple to pray. While leaving the Darbar Sahib, he was shot and killed by a lone gunman. Autar Singh Paintal (24 September 1925 – 21 December 2004) was a medical scientist who made pioneering discoveries in the area of neurosciences and respiratory sciences. He is the first Indian Physiologist to become the Fellow of the Royal Society, London. He was a merit student and did his post graduation in physiology from King George Medical College, Lucknow.
