Assassination Of Ziaur Rahman
Ziaur Rahman, the 7th president of Bangladesh, was assassinated by a faction of officers of Bangladesh Army, on 30 May 1981, in the south-eastern port city of Chittagong. Rahman went to Chittagong to arbitrate in a clash between the local leaders of his political party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. On the night of 30 May, a group of officers commandeered the Chittagong Circuit House, a government residence where Rahman was staying, shooting him and several others. Events At 4 AM on 30 May 1981, three teams of army officers attacked the Chittagong Circuit House where Rahman was asleep. In all there were 16 army officers as soldiers refused to join. Zia Memorial Museum, also known as Old Circuit House was a circuit house building. Ziaur Rahman, the seventh president of Bangladesh, was Assassination of Ziaur Rahman, assassinated in the building in 1981. Today it is a museum. It is located in Chittagong, Bangladesh. Abdus Sattar (1 March 1906 – 5 October 1985) was a Bangladeshi statesman. A leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), he served as the President of Bangladesh from 1981 to 1982, and earlier as the Vice President of Bangladesh. A jurist by profession, Sattar held numerous constitutional and political offices in British India, East Pakistan and Bangladesh. Abu Sayed Matiul Hannan Shah (known as Hannan Shah; 11 October 1941 – 27 September 2016) was a Bangladeshi politician and army officer from Gazipur District. Nawazesh Uddin (24 July 1945 - 23 September 1981) was a Bangladeshi army officer who was executed for his alleged involvement in the assassination of Ziaur Rahman. Career In 1959, Nawazesh joined the Pakistan Army as a student apprentice and was commissioned in the 22nd Baluch Regiment in Sialkot, Punjab in 1966.
