Amiens
Amiens (English: or ; ; pcd, Anmien, or ) is a city and commune in northern France, located north of Paris and south-west of Lille. It is the capital of the Somme department in the region of Hauts-de-France. In 2021, the population of Amiens was 135,429. A central landmark of the city is Amiens Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in France. Amiens also has one of the largest university hospitals in France, with a capacity of 1,200 beds. The author Jules Verne lived in Amiens from 1871 until his death in 1905, and served on the city council for 15 years. Incumbent French president Emmanuel Macron was born in Amiens. The town was fought over during both World Wars, suffering significant damage, and was repeatedly occupied by both sides. The 1918 Battle of Amiens was the opening phase of the Hundred Days Offensive which directly led to the Armistice with Germany. Beaucamps-le-Vieux
Beaucamps-le-Vieux (; Picard: ''Bieucamp'') is a commune in the Somme department in Hauts-de-France in northern France. Geography The commune is situated at the junction of the D96, D496 and D211 roads, from the banks of the Bresle, the border of the departments of the Somme and Seine-Maritime. Population History In 1891, Beaucamps-le-Vieux became the provisional terminal of the Somme regional railway, coming from Amiens, then later reaching Aumale in 1901 and eventually Envermeu in 1906. The line closed to passengers in 1940, and to all traffic in 1947. The train station still stands, but is in private ownership.
