AEON-Amity, more commonly known as Amity is a chain of private English schools (eikaiwa) in Japan, owned by, but operated independently (since 1994) of the larger AEON corporation. While AEON schools proper teach mostly adult students, Amity schools service almost exclusively children, from babies to teenagers. ''Amity'' was a 148-ton brig used in several notable voyages of exploration and settlement in Australia in the early nineteenth century. She was built in New Brunswick in 1816 and for some years was used as a merchant vessel trading between America and Britain before being brought to Australia in 1824. Van Diemen's Land ''Amity'' was built as a brig of 148 tons and was launched at St John's, New Brunswick, in 1816. In 1823 she was purchased by the Scottish Ralston Family to be fitted out for their emigration to Van Diemen's Land. Under the command of Captain McMeckan she departed from Stranraer in southern Scotland on 15 November 1823, travelling via Dublin, across the Atlantic Ocean to Rio de Janeiro and arriving in Hobart exactly five months later on 15 April 1824. Amity is a city in Yamhill County, Oregon, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 1,614. History The town was established between 1848 and 1849 by Joseph and Ahio S. Amity is a town in Aroostook County, eastern Maine, United States, near the Canada–United States border. The population was 253 at the 2020 census. History Amity was first settled in 1826, and incorporated as a town on March 19, 1836 from township T10 R1 WELS. According to some, the town was named for the 1794 Treaty of “Amity, Commerce, and Navigation between England and the United States,” which aimed to end the boundary dispute between Maine and New Brunswick. In 1839, after the so-called "Aroostook War" ended with the signing of the Webster–Ashburton Treaty and gave Maine the town, whose ownership had been disputed, surveyors placed a monument in Monument Brook on the Canada–United States border. It served the dual purpose of commemorating the ending of the Aroostook War, and marking Monument Brook, the northernmost source of the Chiputneticook Lakes. Amity is an unincorporated community in Comanche County, in the U.S. state of Texas. History The area in what is known as Amity today was first settled in the 1870s. The first grave in the community's cemetery was placed in 1877. The community got the name Amity because of the friendly relations of the locals. There was a church, a cemetery, and several scattered houses in Amity in 1940. There was hardly any change in 1966, but the church continued to operate in 1992 and the community continues to be listed on county maps.
