Adventuress (schooner)
''Adventuress'' is a gaff-rigged schooner launched in 1913 in East Boothbay, Maine. She has since been restored, and is listed as a National Historic Landmark. She is one of two surviving San Francisco bar pilot schooners. ''Adventuress'' is currently operated by Sound Experience, a non-profit organization based in Port Townsend, Washington. History ''Adventuress'' was built for John Borden at the Rice Brothers' yard in East Boothbay, Maine, and was designed by B.B. Crowninshield. Borden intended to sail to Alaska to catch a bowhead whale for the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Aboard this maiden voyage sailed the famed naturalist Roy Chapman Andrews. During the voyage, Chapman stopped on the Pribilof Islands and captured film of fur seals, which led to efforts to protect their colonies. Borden's efforts to catch a whale failed and he sold ''Adventuress'' to the San Francisco Bar Pilots Association, which marked the beginning of her career as a workboat. Fo ...

Adventure
An adventure is an exciting experience or undertaking that is typically bold, sometimes risky. Adventures may be activities with danger such as traveling, exploring, skydiving, mountain climbing, scuba diving, river rafting, or other extreme sports. Adventures are often undertaken to create psychological arousal or in order to achieve a greater goal, such as the pursuit of knowledge that can only be obtained by such activities. Motivation Adventurous experiences create psychological arousal, which can be interpreted as negative (e.g. fear) or positive (e.g. flow (psychology), flow). According to adventurer André Malraux, in his ''Man's Fate'' (1933), "If a man is not ready to risk his life, where is his dignity?". Similarly, Helen Keller stated that "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." Outdoor adventurous activities are typically undertaken for the purposes of recreation or wikt:excitement, excite ...

Adventuress (dinghy)
The Adventuress sailing dinghy class was designed by Ian Proctor and built bAnglo Marineof Essex. It is no longer in production. The Adventuress is classed as a family dinghy due to its spacious design and stable hull made so by the unique bilge keels. It is ideally suited for families, or less experienced sailors, or those who want a solid, easily handled, undemanding dinghy for cruising. Although larger than both, being 12.5 foot in length, the Adventuress could be compared to a Heron or Gull (which is also built by Anglo Marine). The dinghy is 12 feet 6 inches long with a mast just over 18 feet. It is sailed with a Mainsail and Jib and performs very well, remaining balanced in all conditions. Construction The Adventuress is constructed of GRP. The bilge keels are formed as an integral part of the hull, and create dynamic and directional stability - they do not contain ballast. The hull and deck mouldings have inner mouldings that create built-in buoyancy tanks at bow and ...

I See A Dark Stranger
''I See a Dark Stranger'' – released as ''The Adventuress'' in the United States – is a 1946 British World War II spy film with touches of light comedy, by the team of Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat, and starring Deborah Kerr and Trevor Howard. As the film was made during the war the final section of the film "Peace" is clearly either an additional or alternative ending. It is a strange movie to judge where the empathy of the British audience is meant to lie. Bridie herself, who is Irish and openly anti-British is willing to help the Germans at the outset and through most of the film. Plot In May 1944, during World War II, a young Irishwoman, Bridie Quilty, turns 21 and sets out to fulfil a lifelong dream born in listening to her late father's stories of the Irish Revolution. She leaves her rural village and goes to Dublin. On the way, she shares a train compartment with J. Miller, but believing him to be English, she is very brusque with him. On arrival, she se ...
