Téir Abhaile Riú
''Téir Abhaile Riú'', also known as ''Teidhir abhaile Riú'', Teigh abhaile Riú or even just simply Teir abhaile, is an Irish folk song. A young woman, or girl, is told to return home as her match has been made. The lyrics for the song vary. In most versions, the woman, or girl, debates with someone about whether or not the match is made. In some versions she is told to marry the piper. The version written for Celtic Woman contains mostly English words and adds information about her reputation, as compared to other popular versions. The song may have been composed in the 18th century, but surely by the 19th. Irish ( Standard Irish: ), also known as Gaelic, is a Goidelic language of the Insular Celtic branch of the Celtic language family, which is a part of the Indo-European language family. Celtic Woman
Celtic Woman is an all-female Irish musical ensemble conceived and created by David Kavanagh, Sharon Browne and David Downes, a former musical director of the Irish stage show ''Riverdance.'' In 2004, Downes recruited five Irish female musicians who had not previously performed together, vocalists Chloë Agnew, Órla Fallon, Lisa Kelly and Méav Ní Mhaolchatha, and fiddler Máiréad Nesbitt, as the first lineup of the group that he named "Celtic Woman". Downes chose a repertoire that ranged from traditional Celtic tunes to modern songs. Clannad
Clannad () is an Irish band formed in 1970 in Gweedore, County Donegal by siblings Ciarán, Pól, and Moya Brennan and their twin uncles Noel and Pádraig Duggan. They have adopted various musical styles throughout their history, including folk, folk rock, traditional Irish, Celtic and new-age music, often incorporating elements of smooth jazz and Gregorian chant. Initially known as ''Clann as Dobhar'', they shortened their name to Clannad in 1973 after winning the Letterkenny Folk Festival with the song "Liza". By 1979, they had released three albums and completed a successful US tour. Cruachan (band)
Cruachan are an Irish folk metal band from Dublin that have been active since the 1990s. They have been acclaimed as having "gone the greatest lengths of anyone in their attempts to expand" the genre of folk metal. They are recognised as one of the founders of the folk metal genre. With a specific focus on Celtic music and the use of Celtic mythology in their lyrics, Cruachan's style of folk metal is called Celtic metal. The band named themselves after the archaeological site of Rathcroghan in Ireland also known as Cruachan. History Keith Fay had formed a Tolkien-inspired black metal band named after the city of Minas Tirith in 1991.
