"The Final Countdown" is a song by Swedish Rock music, rock band Europe (band), Europe, released in 1986. Written by lead singer Joey Tempest, it was based on a keyboard riff he made in the early 1980s, with lyrics inspired by David Bowie's "Space Oddity". Originally made to just be a concert opener, it is the first single and title track from the band's The Final Countdown (album), third studio album. The music video by Nick Morris, made to promote the single, has become iconic with 1 billion views on YouTube. The video features footage from the band's two concerts at Solnahallen in Solna Municipality, Solna, as well as extra footage of the sound checks and footage from Stockholm. Origin and recording The song was based on a keyboard riff which Joey Tempest had written, as early as 1981 or 1982, on a Korg Polysix keyboard which he had borrowed from keyboardist Mic Michaeli. ''The Final Countdown'' is a 1980 American science fiction war film about a modern nuclear-powered aircraft carrier that travels through time to the day before the December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. Produced by Peter Douglas and Lloyd Kaufman (founder of Troma Entertainment) and directed by Don Taylor, the film contains an ensemble cast starring Kirk Douglas, Martin Sheen, James Farentino, Katharine Ross and Charles Durning. This was the final film by Don Taylor. Kaufman also served as an associate producer and had a minor acting role. The film was produced with the cooperation of the United States Navy's naval aviation branch and the United States Department of Defense. It was set and filmed on board (CVN-68), filming operations of the modern nuclear warship, which had been launched in the early 1970s. Final Countdown (Outlaw Star)
The ''Outlaw Star'' anime is the adaptation of the manga series of the same name by Takehiko Ito. The plot follows the protagonist Gene and his crew in their outer space adventures on board their advanced spacecraft named the Outlaw Star. The anime, which was produced by Sunrise and directed by Mitsuru Hongo, aired on Japan's TV Tokyo from January 8, 1998 to June 25, 1998 for a total of 26 episodes. The anime was later licensed for English language distribution in North America by Bandai Entertainment. The series originally aired on Toonami from January 15, 2001 to February 16, 2001. Episode 23 was not aired during this run due to scenes of extensive female nudity and sexually suggestive humor/themes; it was finally broadcast 17 years later, on February 25, 2018, during the revived Toonami block on Adult Swim. ''The Final Countdown'' is the third studio album by the Swedish rock band Europe. Released on 26 May 1986 through Epic Records, the album was a commercial success, peaking at number 8 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' 200 chart and reaching high positions in charts worldwide. It was recorded at Powerplay Studios in Zürich, Soundtrade Studios in Stockholm, Mastersound Studios in Atlanta and Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. ''The Final Countdown'' is the first album to feature keyboardist Mic Michaeli and drummer Ian Haugland and the last to feature guitarist John Norum until 2004's ''Start from the Dark''. Compared to the band’s last two albums that featured a classic heavy metal sound, in this album they switch to a more radio friendly glam metal sound.
