Caribbean Football Union
The Caribbean Football Union (CFU) is the representative organization for football associations in the Caribbean. It represents 25 FIFA member nations, as well as 6 territories that are not affiliated with FIFA. The Union was established in January 1978 and its member associations compete in the CONCACAF region. The CFU also runs developmental competitions, including the CONCACAF Caribbean Shield and youth challenge series. History The formation of the Caribbean Football Union is credited to former Trinidad and Tobago national footballer Patrick Raymond. In 1976, he approached Phil Woosnam, the Commissioner of the North American Soccer League (NASL), about ownership of a Caribbean franchise within the NASL, and instead, Woosnam proposed the formation of a Caribbean Professional League. Caribbean Club Championship
The Caribbean Club Championship, also known as the CFU Club Championship or CFU Club Champions' Cup, was an annual international football competition held amongst association football clubs that are members of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU). The Caribbean Club Championship served as a qualifying event for the CONCACAF Champions League tournament. The tournament was officially the Flow CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship for sponsorship reasons from 2018 to 2022. With the expansion of the CONCACAF Champions League starting from the 2024 edition, the 2022 edition of the Caribbean Club Championship was the last held. Instead, a regional cup tournament will be launched as a qualifying tournament of the CONCACAF Champions League for teams from the Caribbean, besides those which qualify directly through their professional leagues. The 2015 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship qualification was a men's under-23 football competition which decided the participating teams of the 2015 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship. Players born on or after 1 January 1993 were eligible to compete in the tournament. 2017 Caribbean Cup
The 2017 Caribbean Cup was the 19th and final edition of the Caribbean Cup, the biennial international men's association football, football championship of the Caribbean region organized by the Caribbean Football Union (CFU). The top four teams qualified for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, while the 2017 Caribbean Cup qualification#Fifth place playoff, fifth-placed team advanced to a 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup qualification (CFU–UNCAF play-off), play-off against the fifth-placed team from the 2017 Copa Centroamericana for the final Gold Cup berth. The host for the final round was expected to be announced in January 2016. Martinique was announced as host on 25 January 2017, winning over bids of Curaçao and French Guiana. Caribbean Professional Football League
The Caribbean Professional Football League was a short-lived association football competition spanning several Caribbean nations. The aim of the competition was to introduce professional standard football to the Caribbean region. The participating teams were franchises created by local businessmen and the teams featured full international players. Players such as Theodore Whitmore and Rodney Jack participated in the competition. The league proved to be problematic and the Kingston Gleaner reported that it had made "significant losses" before the end of the inaugural competition. In June 1993, the Jamaican press reported that the CPFL had "toiled miserably in its second year and come under fire from competing teams who have incurred heavy financial losses brought on by inefficient organization". Christopher Ziadie, a player and director at the Kingston Lions franchise revealed that it had lost JMD $1.7m in two years and that in some cases less than 50 people would attend a game. ...
