Nobita's South Sea Adventure
is a science fiction adventure film which premiered on March 7, 1998 in Japan, based on the 18th volume of the same name of the ''Doraemon Long Stories'' series. It won Best Animation Film at the 1998 Mainichi Film Awards and was also nominated for best animation film in the Japanese Media Arts Festival. In late 2014, Disney XD in Southeast Asia produced and aired an English dub version of this movie. It is the first Doraemon movie after the death of Fujiko F. Fujio. It's the 19th Doraemon film. Plot Nobita Nobi and his friends are discussing school project themed around seas and oceans. Interested in pirate life and treasury, Nobita asks Doraemon to help him find secret treasures. is a fictional character in the Japanese manga and animated series of the same name created by Fujiko F. Fujio, the pen name of writing team Hiroshi Fujimoto and Motoo Abiko. Doraemon is a male robotic earless cat that travels back in time from the 22nd century to aid a preteen boy named Nobita. An official birth certificate for the character gives him a birth date of 3 September 2112 and lists his city of residency as Kawasaki, Kanagawa, the city where the manga was created. The Japan Media Arts Festival is an annual festival held since 1997 by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. The festival begins with an open competition and culminates with the awarding of several prizes and an exhibition. Based on judging by a jury of artistic peers, awards are given in four categories: Art (formerly called Non-Interactive Digital Art), Entertainment (formerly called Interactive Art; including video games and websites), animation, and manga.
