Maria João Monteiro Grancha (born 27 June 1956) is a Portuguese jazz singer. She is known for her vocal flexibility and improvisational skills. Although considered a jazz singer, she incorporates folk music, avant-garde, and electronica. Her main musical partner is Portuguese pianist Mário Laginha. Maria João Brewster (''née'' Sousa Leão; born 12 February 1955) is a Brazilian former model. She made a career as a photographic model in the 1970s and is the only Brazilian to date (until 2020) to appear on the cover of ''Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue'', photographed in Bahia for the 1978 issue. Biography Before embarking on her modeling career, João studied communication at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. She began her career through her friend, photographer Pedro Liborio, who sent her photos to the advertising agency DPZ. Maria João Gonçalves Abreu Soares (Lisbon, Lisboa, 14 April 1964 – Almada, 13 May 2021), known as Maria João Abreu, was a Portuguese film, television and stage actress. Maria João Ganga is an Angolan film director and screenwriter, best known for being the first woman to make a full-length feature film in Angola. Her film ''Hollow City'' (''Na Cidade Vazia''), which she wrote and directed was released in 2004. The film won the Special Jury Prize at the 2004 Paris Film Festival. Maria João Alexandre Barbosa Pires (; born 23 July 1944) is a Portuguese classical pianist, widely regarded as one of the leading interpreters of Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin. Early life and education Pires was born in Lisbon, Portugal, a posthumous daughter of João Baptista Pires and his wife Alzira dos Santos Alexandre Barbosa. She has three siblings: Hugo Alexandre Barbosa Pires, Maria Regina Alexandre Barbosa Pires and Maria Helena Alexandre Barbosa Pires.
