Connections (British TV Series)
''Connections'' is a science education television series created, written, and presented by British science historian James Burke. The series was produced and directed by Mick Jackson of the BBC Science and Features Department and first aired in 1978 (UK) and 1979 (US). It took an interdisciplinary approach to the history of science and invention, and demonstrated how various discoveries, scientific achievements, and historical world events were built from one another successively in an interconnected way to bring about particular aspects of modern technology. The series was noted for Burke's crisp and enthusiastic presentation (and dry humour), historical re-enactments, and intricate working models. The popular success of the series led to the production of ''The Day the Universe Changed'' (1985), a similar program, but showing a more linear history of several important scientific developments. ''Connections'' is a British game show, devised and produced by John Huntley, that aired on ITV from 26 April 1985 to 6 June 1990. The daytime version is hosted by Sue Robbie from 1985 to 1988 and Simon Potter from 1989 to 1990, while the primetime version is hosted by Richard Madeley. The main theme music and 'stings' throughout the show were composed by Bill Connor and had a catchy '80's feel to it. The same theme was used in the daytime version hosted by Sue Robbie and primetime version with Richard Madeley. Background The daytime version had teenagers as contestants, in a similar vein to another ITV quiz, '' Blockbusters'', with which the show was alternated. The Partnership for Peace Consortium is a network of over 800 defense academies and security studies institutes across 60 countries. Founded in 1998 during the NATO Summit, the PfPC was chartered to promote defense institution building and foster regional stability through multinational education and research, which the PfPC accomplishes via a network of educators and researchers. It is based at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch, Germany. According to the PfPC Annual Report of 2012, in 2012 eight hundred defense academies and security studies institutes in 59 countries worked with the PfPC in 69 defense education/defense institution building and policy-relevant events.
