Zürich Wipkingen Railway Station
Zürich Wipkingen railway station (german: Bahnhof Zürich Wipkingen) is a railway station in the Wipkingen quarter of the Swiss city of Zürich. It is situated on the Zürich–Winterthur railway line, which was built by the Swiss Northeastern Railway (''Schweizerische Nordostbahn''). The route towards leads over the Wipkingen viaduct (''Wipkinger Viadukt''). Immediately at the northern end of the station, the ''Wipkingen Tunnel'' starts and connects it to Zürich Oerlikon. Service Wipkingen station is served only by S-Bahn-style regional trains. As of December 2022, the station is served half-hourly by line S24 of the Zürich S-Bahn. * History The station lies on the oldest of several rail routes from the city center to the northern part of Zürich. The S24 is a regional railway line of the Zürich S-Bahn of the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), Zürich transportation network. The line was significantly extended in June 2014, and again in December 2015, and has subsumed the S21 (originally S1) line previously providing service in parts of its extended route. RegioExpress
RegioExpress (RE) is a fast regional train service in Switzerland, run by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS) or other railway companies (such as TILO, BLS, tpf, transN, THURBO or RhB). It is comparable to the Regional-Express in Germany, Austria and Luxembourg. Its speed is considerably faster than regional trains at the same level, as it does not stop at all stations served by the regional trains. Nonetheless, it is slightly slower than InterRegio trains. Swiss Federal Railways describes the trains as ones that serve "rapidly into the regions". EuroCity
EuroCity, abbreviated as EC, is a cross-border train category within the European inter-city rail network. In contrast to trains allocated to the lower-level "IC" (InterCity) category, EC trains are international services that meet 20 criteria covering comfort, speed, food service, and cleanliness. Each EC train is operated by more than one European Union or Swiss rail company, under a multilateral co-operative arrangement, and all EC trains link important European cities with each other. Weinberg Tunnel
The Weinberg Tunnel (german: Weinbergtunnel) is a railway tunnel in the Swiss city of Zürich. The tunnel runs from the western approaches to Zürich Hauptbahnhof railway station, east under the station and city centre before turning north and surfacing on the southern approach to Zürich Oerlikon railway station, and allows trains running between east and west to pass through Zürich without reversal.
