Zürcher Verkehrsverbund
The ZVV (German language, German abbreviation for Zürcher Verkehrsverbund, translated into English language, English as Zürich Transport Network or Zürich Traffic Network) is a public transportation system. It combines Rail transport, rail, bus, tram, trolleybus, boat, lake boat, Aerial tramway, cable car and other services in the Switzerland, Swiss canton of Zürich (and including Rapperswil-Jona (SG), Pfäffikon SZ and spots outside of the canton) integrating them into a single fare network with coordinated timetables. Fares are based on the number of zones crossed during a specified time and are independent of the mode of transport or the number of connections. History The system was established in May 1990 as a unified fare system with a coordinated local train network. Local train lines were prefixed with the letter S (S-Bahn). ICN (SBB-CFF-FFS)
The RABDe 500 (often nicknamed ICN for Intercity-Neigezug, German for Intercity Tilting Train), is a Swiss high speed passenger train which was introduced in 2000, in time for Expo.02 held in western Switzerland in 2002. Its maximum speed is , which can be reached on the Mattstetten–Rothrist new line; the RABDe 500 uses the branch to Solothurn only; the ICNs reach 200 km/h in the new Gotthard Base Tunnel. The train sets were a joint development by Bombardier, Swiss Federal Railways and Alstom, with an aerodynamic body designed by Pininfarina, bogies and tilting mechanism designed by the then SIG, Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft. Forty-four RABDe 500 trains with a total of 308 coaches were delivered to SBB-CFF-FFS between 1999 and 2005.
