Zünheboto (Pron:/ˌzʌnˈhiːbəʊtəʊ/), also known as ''Zünhebo'', is a town located in the Indian state of Nagaland. Zünheboto is inhabited by the Sümi Nagas. It is the location of the largest Baptist church in Asia, the Zünheboto Sümi Baptist Church. Etymology The word Zünheboto is derived from the Sümi words ''zünhebo'', the name of a flowering shrub '' Leucosceptrum'', and ''to'' or ''ato'', hill top. The ''zünhebo'' plant grows abundantly in this region and the town was built on the top of the rolling hills hence the name, ''Zünhebo-to'' or Zünheboto. Hence, Zünheboto means the hill top of Zünhebo flowers. Geography Zünheboto lies north of the Satoi Range. Zünheboto District (Pron:/ˌzʌnˈhiːbəʊtəʊ/) is a district in the Indian state of Nagaland. Sümi Nagas are indigenous to this district. History Zünheboto district came into existence on 19 December 1973. Geography It is bordered by Mokokchung District on the north, Tuensang District on the northeast, Kiphire District to the east, Phek District in the south, Kohima District and Tseminyü District to the southwest and Wokha District to the west. Zünheboto Sümi Baptist Church is a Baptist church located in Zünheboto, Nagaland, India. It is affiliated with the Nagaland Baptist Church Council. Sümi Naga
The Sümi Naga also known as Sema Naga are a major Naga ethnic group in the Indian state of Nagaland. The Sümis mainly inhabit Zünheboto District, parts of Niuland District and Kiphire District although many have spread and are now living in a few more districts within Nagaland. Anthropological study of the Sümis is documented in the book ''The Sema Nagas'' by J. H. Hutton, who was a Professor of Social Anthropology in the University of Cambridge. The Sümi is one of the recognised scheduled tribes of India. Religion The ancestral religion of the Sümis was the worship of nature.
