Zweizz
Zweizz is the primary performing alias of Norwegian musician and composer Svein Egil Hatlevik (born May 27, 1977). History Hatlevik started using the Zweizz alias in 2003 after leaving the Norwegian black metal group Dødheimsgard. According to Hatlevik, Zweizz should be considered a one-man band, not a solo project. Hatlevik defines the musical style of Zweizz as a mixture of IDM, noise, electroacoustic music and black metal. Hatlevik also uses the pseudonym Zweizz in other bands which he is also a member of, such as Umoral and Pronounced "Sex". As a member of Dødheimsgard he used the aliases "Hologram" and "Magic/Logic". The first Zweizz release was the 7" EP '' Black Necrotic Obfuscation'', issued through Vendlus Records in 2004. On March 24, 2007 Zweizz released his debut album '' The Yawn of the New Age'', also through Vendlus Records. Black Necrotic Obfuscation
''Black Necrotic Obfuscation'' is the debut EP by the Norwegian electronic/noise/avant-garde metal artist Zweizz. It was released in a limited edition of 512 copies; 256 of these had red transparent vinyl, whereas the remaining 256 had transparent blue vinyl. According to Zweizz mainman Svein Egil Hatlevik, both songs featured on Black Necrotic Obfuscation were originally intended to be used in his other band Fleurety, but since this band is active to a very small extent, Hatlevik finished the songs himself. Critical reception ''Black Necrotic Obfuscation'' was met with several reviews comparing the music to Hatlevik's previous work in Fleurety and Dødheimsgard. Terrorizer Magazine's James Hinchliffe set his grade to 7 points out of 10: "Those who still remember the incorrigibly weird Fleurety and sometime Dødheimsgard member Svein Egil Hatlevik's mid-'90s serial killer noise project Aphrodisiac are best suited to getting something out of his new solo excursion, Zweizz. The Yawn Of The New Age
''The Yawn of the New Age'' is the debut album by the Norwegian electronic/noise/avant-garde metal artist Zweizz. All music and lyrics are created by Svein Egil Hatlevik, except "Blacker Than Darkness", which is an adaptation of the song by the same title, written by Norwegian black metal group Immortal. Critical reception ''The Yawn of the New Age'' has been met with reviews ranging from very favourable to very unfavourable. Pitchfork's monthly metal columnist, Brandon Stosuy belonged to the enthusiasts: "Hatlevik's one of the most compelling musicians (and minds) in this realm today...check it out." Decibel magazine gave the album 8 points out of 10, writing: "It’s been a while since black metal questioned itself like Zweizz is doing here, and in a BM scene so awash with turgid, unthinking revivalism (and lame bands), it’s nice to know the fringes of extremity can always be counted on to keep things interesting. And pink." In ink19.com, reviewer Matthew Moyer wrote the fo ...

Dødheimsgard
Dødheimsgard (also known as DHG) is a Norwegian extreme metal band formed in 1994. Dødheimsgard originally played black metal, but 1999's ''666 International'' saw them change their style into experimental and avant-garde/industrial metal. In 2000, they shortened their name to DHG. Their name,"Dødheimsgard" is a contraction of three words: ''Død'' which means 'death', ''heim'' which means 'home' and ''gard'' which means (at least in this context) 'realm'. A natural translation into English would be "Realm of Death". History Founding of the band and ''Kronet til Konge'' (1994–1995) The band was founded in 1994. At the time they consisted of three members: Vicotnik (drums, backing vocals), Fenriz (bass, additional vocals) and Aldrahn (lead vocals and guitar) This line up recorded a promotional demo before releasing their debut album ''Kronet til Konge'' on Malicious Records in 1995. After the release of the album they recorded another promotional demo. ''Monumental Posse ...

ANS Synthesizer
The ANS synthesizer is a photoelectronic musical instrument created by Russian engineer Evgeny Murzin from 1937 to 1957. The technological basis of his invention was the method of graphical sound recording used in cinematography (developed in Russia concurrently with USA), which made it possible to obtain a visible image of a sound wave, as well as to realize the opposite goal— synthesizing a sound from an artificially drawn sound spectrogram. In this case the sine waves generated by the ANS are printed onto five glass discs using a process that Murzin (an optical engineer) had to develop himself. Each disc has 144 individual tracks printed onto it, for a total of 720 microtones (discrete pitches), spanning 10 octaves. This yields a resolution of 1/72 octave (16.67 cents). The modulated light from these wheels is then projected onto the back of the synthesizer's interface. These are arranged in a continuous swath vertically, with low frequencies at the bottom and high fr ...

Fleurety
Fleurety is a Norwegian avant-garde metal band. The band was formed in 1991 by Svein Egil Hatlevik and Alexander Nordgaren. History The band released their first demo, ''Black Snow'' in 1993. After that came the 7-inch EP ''A Darker Shade of Evil'' in 1994, released via the British label Aesthetic Death Records. Both of these were in a fairly traditional Norwegian black metal style, although with very high-pitched screaming vocals, giving the band a characteristic sound. Their album ''Min Tid Skal Komme'', was released in 1995 in cooperation with Aesthetic Death Records and Misanthropy Records. This recording featured an avant-garde/psychedelic black metal style with atonal harmonics, folk music elements, and female vocals by Norwegian pop singer Marian Aas Hansen. With 1999's mini-album ''Last-Minute Lies'', the band moved even further away from their black metal origins. This recording and the following album was released by Supernal Music. In 2000, Fleurety released their se ...

Avant-garde Metal
Avant-garde metal (also known as avant-metal, experimental metal, and experimental) is a subgenre of heavy metal music loosely defined by use of experimentation and innovative, avant-garde elements, including non-standard and unconventional sounds, instruments, song structures, playing styles, and vocal techniques. Avant-garde metal is influenced by progressive rock and extreme metal, particularly death metal, and is closely related to progressive metal. Some local scenes include Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, and Seattle in the United States, Oslo in Norway, and Tokyo in Japan. Characteristics "Avant-garde metal" is interchangeable with "experimental metal" and "avant-metal", and may also refer to a separate genre of "atmospheric metal" or "post-metal", which was named in reference to post-rock. Avant-garde metal is related to progressive metal, but avant-garde metal often has more experimentation, while progressive metal usually has a tighter focus on traditio ...

Compact Cassette
The Compact Cassette or Musicassette (MC), also commonly called the tape cassette, cassette tape, audio cassette, or simply tape or cassette, is an analog magnetic tape recording format for audio recording and playback. Invented by Lou Ottens and his team at the Dutch company Philips in 1963, Compact Cassettes come in two forms, either already containing content as a prerecorded cassette (''Musicassette''), or as a fully recordable "blank" cassette. Both forms have two sides and are reversible by the user. Although other tape cassette formats have also existed - for example the Microcassette - the generic term ''cassette tape'' is normally always used to refer to the Compact Cassette because of its ubiquity. Its uses have ranged from portable audio to home recording to data storage for early microcomputers; the Compact Cassette technology was originally designed for dictation machines, but improvements in fidelity led to it supplanting the stereo 8-track cartridge and reel ...
