Zulu Clements
Zulu Clements (1 August 1876 – 14 December 1943) was the president of the California Federation of Business & Professional Women's Clubs. She was the traffic manager for the Leslie Salt Co, and touted as "Woman Salt Baron". Early life Zulu Clements born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 1, 1876, the daughter of Charles R. Clements and Anna M. Cadow. Career Clements was the Traffic Manager for the Leslie Salt, Leslie-California Salt Co, the largest salt company in the United States of the time. She was known among the San Francisco women as the dollar sign: no matter how much money was needed or for what purpose, Clements produced it from some source. She was the editor of the Western Women's Club News, the monthly bulletin of the Western Women's Club. She was active in club affairs. Leslie Salt
The Leslie Salt Company was a salt-producing company located in the San Francisco Bay Salt Ponds, San Francisco Bay Area, at the current locations of Newark, California, Newark, Hayward, California, Hayward and other parts of the bay. Background They produced salt using salt evaporation ponds on the shores of the San Francisco Bay. By the 1940s, Leslie Salt under the dominant ownership of the A. Schilling & Company, Schilling family had become the largest private land owner in the Bay Area. By 1959, they were producing more than one million tons of salt annually, on over of bay salt ponds. They were purchased by Cargill in 1978. Western Women's Club
The Marines' Memorial Club in San Francisco, California at 609 Sutter Street (at Mason), is a 501(c)19 nonprofit veterans charity and private social club for United States Marines and other veterans of the United States Armed Forces. The nonprofit Marines' Memorial Association owns the large building in the Union Square neighborhood of San Francisco that houses a hotel, theater, restaurant/bar, sports club, special event facilities, library, museum, memorial, and a military history bookstore. Cypress Lawn Memorial Park
Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, established by Hamden Holmes Noble in 1892, is a rural cemetery located in Colma, California, a place known as the "City of the Silent". History Cypress Lawn Memorial Park is the final resting site for several members of the celebrated Hearst family, people from the California Gold Rush, plus other prominent citizens from the city of San Francisco and nearby surroundings. Three Commonwealth War Graves Commission, British Commonwealth service personnel of World War I were buried here, but only one, Lieutenant Norman Travers Simpkin (died 1919), Royal Field Artillery, has a marked grave in the cemetery.
