Rulah, Jungle Goddess
Rulah, Jungle Goddess is a fictional character, a jungle girl, in comic books published by Fox Feature Syndicate. She first appeared in ''Zoot Comics'' #7 (June 1947). Matt Baker designed her, before Jack Kamen and Graham Ingels helped develop her image. Rulah was inspired by a boom in jungle girl comics in the late 1940s, headed by Fiction House's Sheena, Queen of the Jungle. Character background Rulah's real name was given variously as either Jane Dodge or Joan Grayson. In the latter version, she is a young aviator on a solo flight over Africa when her plane loses control and crashes. She replaces her clothes (which were destroyed in the crash) with a bikini made from the skin of a dead giraffe. Soon afterwards, she saves a local tribe from an evil woman, and is accepted as its queen, who remains in the jungle as its protector. She is often accompanied by her pet panther, Saber. Zoot (band)
Zoot were a pop rock band formed in Adelaide, South Australia, in 1964 as Down the Line.McFarlane (1999). Encyclopedia entry fo'Zoot' Retrieved 21 January 2010.Spencer et al, (2007ZOOTentry. Retrieved 21 January 2010. They changed their name to Zoot in 1967 and by 1968 had relocated to Melbourne. Mainstay bass guitarist, Beeb Birtles, was later a founder of Little River Band in 1975, and their guitarist singer-songwriter, Rick Springfield, who moved to the United States in 1972, achieved international fame as a solo artist, songwriter and actor. Bug Byte
Bug-Byte Software Ltd. was a video game company founded in 1980 by Tony Baden and Tony Milner, two Oxford chemistry graduates. It was one of the first to develop a range of 8-bit computer games during the early 1980s, for Sinclair, Commodore and other home computer brands, particularly for the Spectrum. Among the better known titles are ''Manic Miner'' and ''Twin Kingdom Valley''. The company was based in Mulberry House, Canning Place, Liverpool, England, and helped found a number of software houses in that region. In 1983, programmer Eugene Evans and two of the senior staff left to form Imagine Software. Later in the year Matthew Smith, a freelance developer who wrote ''Manic Miner'', left to join Software Projects. In June 1985, after a difficult trading season and a shake-out in the industry, the company went into voluntary liquidation, and the rights to their name and logo were purchased by Argus Press PLC. Zoot Sims
John Haley "Zoot" Sims (October 29, 1925 – March 23, 1985) was an American jazz saxophonist, playing mainly tenor but also alto (and, later, soprano) saxophone. He first gained attention in the "Four Brothers" sax section of Woody Herman's big band, afterward enjoying a long solo career, often in partnership with fellow saxmen Gerry Mulligan and Al Cohn. Biography Sims was born in 1925 in Inglewood, California, United States, to vaudeville performers Kate Haley and John Sims. His father was a vaudeville hoofer, and Sims prided himself on remembering many of the steps his father taught him. Growing up in a performing family, he learned to play drums and clarinet at an early age. His brother was the trombonist Ray Sims. Sims began on tenor saxophone at age 13. Zoot Money
George Bruno Money (born 17 July 1942) is an English vocalist, keyboardist and bandleader. He is best known for his playing of the Hammond organ and association with his Big Roll Band. Inspired by Jerry Lee Lewis and Ray Charles, he was drawn to rock and roll music and became a leading light in the vibrant music scene of Bournemouth and Soho during the 1960s. He took his stage name 'Zoot' from Zoot Sims after seeing him in concert. Money has been associated with The Animals, Eric Burdon, Peter Green, Steve Marriott, Kevin Coyne, Kevin Ayers, Humble Pie, Alexis Korner, Snowy White, Mick Taylor, Spencer Davis, Vivian Stanshall, Geno Washington, Brian Friel, the Hard Travelers, Widowmaker, Georgie Fame and Alan Price. ''My Favorite Martian'' is a 1999 American science-fiction comedy film starring Christopher Lloyd, Jeff Daniels, Daryl Hannah, Elizabeth Hurley, Wallace Shawn, Wayne Knight and Ray Walston, based on the 1960s television series of the same name which Walston starred in. A '' Mickey Mouse Works'' short, ''Pluto Gets The Paper: Spaceship'', was shown in theaters with it. The film received negative reviews from critics and was a box office bomb, grossing $36.8 million against a $65 million budget. ''Loxie & Zoot'' is a webcomic by Australian artist Grace Crowley (going by "Stephen Crowley" at the time) that ran from 2000 to 2006. The webcomic, which was originally intended for a niche audience of naturists, follows the inhabitants of a fictional nudist resort. ''Loxie & Zoot'' became somewhat notorious for the "pleasant" and realistic manner in which it presents its subject matter. Synopsis ''Loxie & Zoot'' is set in the fictional Koala Bay Bares Naturist Resort, a nudist resort where its varied cast of characters, including its title characters Loxie and Zoot, reside. During the several storylines of ''Loxie & Zoot'', the inhabitants of the resort have to deal with a jewel thief, supernatural elements, and the villain Tex Tyler, who desires to shut the resort down. ''The Tribe'' is a science fiction drama television series which premiered on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom on 24 April 1999. The series was created by Raymond Thompson and Harry Duffin, and was developed and produced by the Cloud 9 Screen Entertainment Group in New Zealand. The series was commissioned by Channel 5, who received the initial screening rights. The series made its New Zealand premiere in 2000 on TV4.
