Zohar Fresco
Zohar Fresco (born 1969) is an Israeli percussionist and composer, specializing on the frame drum. He is known to have created his personal musical technique that combines various styles of playing the frame drum. He is a member of the jazz trio ''MOŻDŻER DANIELSSON FRESCO'', together with Polish pianist Leszek Możdżer and Swedish double bass player Lars Danielsson. Previously, he was a member of the Israeli world music band Bustan Abraham, which existed between 1991 and 2003. During his career, he has played with musicians such as the jazz drummer Hamid Drake, violin player Taiseer Elias, saxophonist Daniel Zamir and oud player Ara Dinkjian. He has also toured with American composer Philip Glass and others. Frame Drum
A frame drum is a drum that has a drumhead width greater than its depth. It is one of the most ancient musical instruments, and perhaps the first drum to be invented. It has a single drumhead that is usually made of rawhide, but man-made materials may also be used. Some frame drums have mechanical tuning, while on many others the drumhead is tacked in place. The drumhead is stretched over a round, wooden frame called a shell. The shell is traditionally constructed of rosewood, oak, ash etc. that has been bent and then scarf jointed together; though some are also made of plywood or man-made materials. Metal rings or jingles may also be attached to the frame. In many cultures larger frame drums are played mainly by men in spiritual ceremonies, while medium-size drums are played mainly by women. Achinoam Nini ( he, אחינועם ניני, Aẖinóʿam Nini; born ), also known professionally as Noa (), is an Israeli singer-songwriter, percussionist, poet, composer, and human rights activist working internationally. Hariprasad Chaurasia
Hariprasad Chaurasia (born 1 July 1938) is an Indian music director and classical flautist, who plays the bansuri, in the Hindustani classical tradition. Early life Chaurasia was born in Allahabad (1938) (officially called Prayagraj) in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. His mother died when he was six years old. He had to learn music without his father's knowledge, as his father wanted him to become a wrestler. Chaurasia did go to the Akhada and trained with his father for some time, although he also started learning music and practising at his friend's house. Ustad Zakir Hussain (born 9 March 1951) is an Indian tabla player, composer, percussionist, music producer and film actor. He is the eldest son of tabla player Alla Rakha. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1988, and the Padma Bhushan in 2002, by the Government of India presented by A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, President Abdul Kalam. Ross Daly (born 29 September 1952 in King's Lynn, Norfolk) is a world musician who specializes in music of the Cretan lyra. Although of Irish people, Irish descent, he has been living on the island of Crete for over 35 years. Philip Glass
Philip Glass (born January 31, 1937) is an American composer and pianist. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century. Ara Dinkjian ( hy, Արա Տինքճեան; born June 18, 1958) is an Armenian-American musician. He is the founder of the band Night Ark. Dinkjian is considered one of the top oud players in the world, his compositions have been recorded in thirteen different languages, which include the multi-platinum hit "Dinata" which was performed in the closing ceremonies of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Daniel Zamir ( he, דניאל זמיר; born 1980 in Petah Tikva) is an Israeli saxophonist and singer. Having started on alto saxophone, Zamir is mainly known for his soprano playing. Background Zamir was born to a secular family and started playing the saxophone at the age of eleven. He is a graduate of Thelma Yellin High School of Arts in Israel. After he finished his studies he left for New York City, where he began showing interest in Jewish, Hasidic and East European music as well as West Indian rhythmic approaches.
