Zimbabwe National Paralympic Committee
The Zimbabwe National Paralympic Committee (ZNPC) is responsible for Zimbabwe's participation in the Paralympic Games, and for overseeing disability sports in the country. Its mission it to support athletes with disabilities "competing at both the grassroots and elite levels". The Zimbabwe National Paralympic Committee was only officially launched and registered in 2010. The Paralympic Games or Paralympics, also known as the ''Games of the Paralympiad'', is a periodic series of international multisport events involving athletes with a range of physical disabilities, including impaired muscle power and impaired passive range of movement, limb deficiency, leg length difference, short stature, hypertonia, ataxia, athetosis, vision impairment and intellectual impairment. Zimbabwe has been competing at the Paralympic Games since the country became independent in 1980; it had previously competed as Rhodesia. Zimbabwe was absent from the Games in 1988 and 1992, returning in 1996 with a two-man delegation, and has competed at every edition of the Summer Paralympics since then. The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (IOC code: ZIM) is the National Olympic Committee representing Zimbabwe. It was created in 1934 and recognised by the IOC in 1980.
