Zigzag Of Fortune (film)
''Zigzag of Success'' (russian: Зигзаг удачи, link=yes, translit. ''Zigzag udachi'') is a 1968 Soviet comedy film directed by Eldar Ryazanov. Plot Photo studio "Contemporary" in a provincial town lives with its everyday problems. The director is concerned over the failure to fulfill the planned targets, receptionist Alevtina wants to get married, and photographer Vladimir Oreshnikov dreams of becoming a professional photographer. But suddenly luck smiles on Oreshnikov. He takes 20 rubles form the worker's mutual aid fund, buys a government lottery bond and wins 10,000 rubles. Oreshnikov wants to receive the win himself, but his colleagues object to him, because the money that he spent on the bond were public, hence the win should be divided equally among all workers. It creates a controversial situation, which is successfully resolved on the very eve of the New Year, under the chiming clock ... Eldar Aleksandrovich Ryazanov (russian: Эльдар Александрович Рязанов; 18 November 1927 – 30 November 2015) was a Soviet and Russian film director, screenwriter, poet, actor and pedagogue whose popular comedies, satirizing the daily life of the Soviet Union and Russia, are celebrated throughout the former Soviet Union and former Warsaw Pact countries. Biography Eldar Aleksandrovich Ryazanov was born in Samara. His father, Aleksandr Semyonovich Ryazanov, was a diplomat who worked in Tehran. His mother, Sofya Mikhailovna (née Shusterman), was of Jewish descent. In 1930, the family moved to Moscow, and soon his parents divorced. He was then raised by his mother and her new husband, Lev Mikhailovich Kopp. In 1937 his father was arrested by the Stalinist government and subsequently served 18 years in the correctional labour camps. Nina Sazonova
Nina Afanasievna Sazonova (russian: Ни́на Афана́сьевна Сазо́нова; 1917 — 2004) was a leading actress of the Soviet Army Theatre in Moscow. The daughter of a peasant, she joined Aleksey Popov's theatre school at the age of 17. Popov went on to direct her in a number of productions at the Soviet Army Theatre. In the 1960s, she appeared in supporting roles in a slew of Soviet films and gained wider renown for her portrayal of a World War II survivor in the 1965 melodrama '' Womenfolk''. Sazonova was named a People's Artist of the USSR in 1977 and was awarded the Order of Lenin in 1987. Her later years were plagued by a series of horrible incidents, such as being severely beaten by her drunken son who proceeded to jump 11 stories out of an apartment window to his death.
