''Zie 37 Stagen'' is a Canadian short comedy film, directed by Sylvain Guy and released in 1997. The film centres on an assassin who enters an elevator with a military general with the intention of killing him, only for the elevator trip to be more wild and fantastical than anybody but the elevator operator had imagined. The film's dialogue is spoken entirely in a mashup of several different European languages. The film premiered at the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois in February 1997, and was later screened at the 1997 Yorkton Film Festival, the 1997 Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival, and in the Perspective Canada program at the 1997 Toronto International Film Festival. Sylvain Guy is a Canadian screenwriter and film director from Quebec. He is most noted for the 2004 film ''Machine Gun Molly (Monica la mitraille)'', for which he and Luc Dionne won the Genie Award for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 25th Genie Awards in 2005. Yorkton Film Festival Golden Sheaf Award - Comedy
Yorkton Film Festival (YFF) is an annual film festival held in late May in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. In 1947, the Yorkton Film Council (YFC) was founded and in 1950 the first international documentary film festival officially opened in western Canada on 11 October. The festival originally was named Yorkton International Documentary Film Festival and latter become known as Yorkton International Film Festival. In 1969, the Yorkton Film Council disbanded and the Yorkton International Film Festival Society was formed. The film festival went through several name changes and currently operates as Yorkton Film Festival. It is known as the longest running film festival held in North America. The history of cinema in Quebec started on June 27, 1896 when the Frenchman Louis Minier inaugurated the first movie projection in North America in a Montreal theatre room. Genie Award
The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards (1949–1978; also known as the "Etrog Awards," for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed the statuette). Genie Award candidates were selected from submissions made by the owners of Canadian films or their representatives, based on the criteria laid out in the ''Genie Rules and Regulations'' booklet which is distributed to Academy members and industry members. Peer-group juries, assembled from volunteer members of the Academy, meet to screen the submissions and select a group of nominees. Academy members then vote on these nominations.
