Zhukiv Island
Zhukiv ( Ukrainian ''Жуків''), is a major village in Ternopil Raion of Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine. It is located about 8 km north of Berezhany, beside the hill named Huk. Zhukiv belongs to Berezhany urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. It is the native village of the famous Ukrainian writer Bohdan Lepky. Zhukiv is located on banks of the river Zolota Lypa near Mountain Him, which is the largest mountain in Zhukiv. Population - 828 persons (2014). Yards - 240. History The first written mention - 1420. Ternopil Raion ( uk, Тернопільський район) is a raion in Ternopil Oblast in western Ukraine. Its administrative center is Ternopil. A hromada ( uk, територіальна громада, lit=territorial community, translit=terytorialna hromada) is a basic unit of administrative division in Ukraine, similar to a municipality. Bohdan Teodor Nestor Lepky, ( uk, Богдан Теодор Нестор Лепкий, November 9, 1872, Krehulets, Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, Austria-Hungary – July 21, 1941, Kraków, General Government, Nazi Germany) was a Ukrainian writer, poet, scholar, public figure, and artist. He was born on November 9, 1872, in the village of Zhukiv, in the same house where the Polish insurgent Bogdan Jarocki once lived. Berezhany Raion
Berezhany Raion ( uk, Бережанський район) was a raion (district) in the westernmost corner of Ternopil Oblast (province) in western Ukraine, area traditionally known as Halychyna (''Galicia''). The administrative center was the city of Berezhany, some 50 km away from Ternopil and ca 80 km away from Lviv.
