Zell Am See (district)
The Bezirk Zell am See is an administrative district (''Bezirk'') in the federal state of Salzburg, Austria, and congruent with the Pinzgau region (). The area of the district is , with a population of 84,124 (May 15, 2001), and population density 32 persons per km². The administrative center of the district is Zell am See. It is a two-hour transfer to resort from Salzburg Airport. The region’s biggest town is Saalfelden with a population of 20,000. Lofer
Lofer is a market town in the district of Zell am See in the Austrian state of Salzburg. Geography Lofer is located in the historic Pinzgau region, in the valley of the Saalach river between the Chiemgau Alps and Reiter Alpe in the north and east, and the Lofer Mountains in the southwest. In the west, the road leads to the municipality of Waidring in Tyrol, while in the north the ''Kleines Deutsches Eck'' highway connection, part of the European route E641, runs along the Saalach river to the southwestern outskirts of Salzburg via neighbouring Unken and over the border with Germany. Krimml is a municipality in Zell am See District, in the federal state of Salzburg, Austria, in the Pinzgau region. Geography Krimml is situated on the Salzach river, at the southwestern rim of the upper (western) ''Pinzgau'' region near the border with Tyrol. It is located about west of the town of Mittersill and from the district capital Zell am See. The settlement's centre area is situated at an elevation of above sea level. Kaprun () is a municipality in the Zell am See District in the state of Salzburg, Austria. The town is a tourist destination known as "Zell am See-Kaprun" with the neighbouring Zell am See and known for the glacier Kitzsteinhorn. Bramberg am Wildkogel is a municipality in the district of Zell am See (Pinzgau region), in the state of Salzburg, Austria. The town lies at the south foot of the high Wildkogel mountain. The town's average elevation is . History In ancient times, the area around Bramberg was a copper-ore mining center. Belonging to the municipality Leitengut, Bramberg was mentioned in 925 as the oldest parish in the upper Salzachtal river valley and in 1160 was named as "Prentenperige" for the first time. The mining was taken up again in 1829 and finally abandoned in 1863. Attempts at mining again in the 20th century later failed.
