Zayed International Prize For The Environment
The Zayed International Prize for the Environment is a prize awarded by the ''Zayed International Foundation for the Environment''. The Zayed Prize, worth 1 million US dollars is awarded every two years, in the name of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, based on stringent selection criteria. The Zayed Prize is classified into four award categories. The recipient of the ''Global Leadership on the Environment component'' receives $USD 500,000, the recipient of the ''Scientific and Technological Achievement component'' receives $USD 250,000, and the recipient of the ''Environmental Action Leading to Positive Change in Society component'' receives $USD 200,000 and ''Young Scientists Award for Environmental Sustainability'' $USD 50,000 The value of the prize is the highest of any environmental prize. Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan
Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan ( ar, زَايِد بِن سُلْطَان آل نَهْيَان, Zāyed bin Sulṭān Āl Nahyān; 6 May 1918 – 2 November 2004) was an Emirati politician, statesman, and philanthropist who served as the first president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 1971 until his death in 2004. He is credited as the founding father and the principal driving force behind the formation of the UAE, uniting seven emirates. He was also the ruler of Abu Dhabi from 1966 until his death. Mathis Wackernagel is a Swiss-born sustainability advocate. He is President of Global Footprint Network, an international sustainability think tank with offices in Oakland, California; Brussels, Belgium, and Geneva, Switzerland. The think-tank is a non-profit that focuses on developing and promoting metrics for sustainability. After earning a degree in mechanical engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, he completed his Ph.D. in community and regional planning at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada in 1994. Emil Salim (born in Lahat, South Sumatra, Indonesia, 8 June 1930) is an Indonesian economist and former politician. Born of Minangkabau parents, both from the village of Koto Gadang in West Sumatra. His uncle is Agus Salim, one of the founding fathers of the Republic of Indonesia and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the early 1950s. Salim graduated from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Indonesia in 1959.
