The Zaporizhzhia City Council ( uk, Запорізька міська рада, ) is a local government area that governs Zaporizhzhia, a city of regional significance located in southeast Ukraine. Its population was 810,620 in the 2001 Ukrainian Census. Government The Zaporizhzhia City Council (and the city of Zaporizhzhia itself), is governed by a mayor, who is elected every four years in local Ukrainian elections. City of regional significance ( uk, місто обласного значення, ''misto oblasnoho znachennia'') in Ukraine was a type of second-level administrative division or municipality, the other type being raions (districts). In the first-level division of oblasts, they were referred to as ''cities of oblast significance''; in the first-level autonomous republic of Crimea, they were ''cities of republican significance''. The designation was created with the introduction of oblasts in 1932. It was abolished in a 2020 reform that merged raions together and integrated the city municipalities into them. Voznesenskyi District
Voznesenivskyi District ( uk, Вознесенівський район) is an administrative-territorial unit within the city of Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine named after the historical village of Voznesenky. The economic and symbolic center of the city and the Zaporizhzhia metropolitan area, it is Zaporizhzhia's oldest district and home to many of region's cultural, financial, educational and historical landmarks including Zaporizhzhia Regional Administration, Krytyy Market and Festival Square. Urban raions or urban districts ( uk, райони у містах України, translit=raiony u mistakh Ukrainy) are the second-level administrative division in certain cities in Ukraine. An urban district is subordinate to the city administration. Overview There are 111 districts in 19 cities of Ukraine. The cities that contain district division in a city usually are of national (such as Kyiv and Sevastopol) or regional significance. The number of districts in city per region varies between the minimum of two and up to 21 in Donetsk Oblast (the maximum districts in a single city are in Kyiv).
