Alessandro Zamperini
Alessandro Zamperini (born 15 August 1982) is an Italian footballer, in the role of defender. Club career Alessandro Zamperini started his footballing career at Serie A giants Lazio, the club he has supported as a child, before signing his first professional contract, at fierce rivals Roma, then moving to English First Division club Portsmouth appearing for them 26 times and scoring 2 goals against Gillingham and Crystal Palace. Zamperini then moved back to Italy with Serie A team Modena, though he did not make an appearance for them. He then had spells with several Serie C1 clubs, including Acireale, Sambenedettese and Ternana Serie B before moving to side Cisco Roma in 2007, and Valle del Giovenco in 2008. Louis Zamperini
Louis Silvie Zamperini (January 26, 1917 – July 2, 2014) was an American World War II veteran and an Olympic distance runner. He took up running in high school and qualified for the United States in the 5,000 m race for the 1936 Berlin Olympics, finishing 8th while setting a new lap record in the process. Zamperini was commissioned in the United States Army Air Forces as a lieutenant. He served as a bombardier on B-24 Liberators in the Pacific. On a search and rescue mission, his plane experienced mechanical difficulties and crashed into the ocean. After drifting at sea on a life raft for 47 days, with two other crewmates, Zamperini landed on the Japanese-occupied Marshall Islands and was captured. He was taken to four different prisoner-of-war camps (total) in Japan where he was tortured and beaten by Japanese military personnel—specifically by Mutsuhiro Watanabe—due to Zamperini's status as a famous Olympic runner. Zamperini Field
Zamperini Field is a public airport three miles (5 km) southwest of downtown Torrance, in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The airport is classified by the FAA as a Regional Reliever (not for interplanetarien vehicle) and was once known as Torrance Municipal Airport; it was renamed for local sports and war hero Louis Zamperini on December 7, 1946, the fifth anniversary to the a Pearl Harbor attack. History The airport was completed by the United States Army Air Forces on March 31, 1943, and was known as Lomita Flight Strip. It was an emergency landing field for military aircraft on training flights. It was closed after World War II and the War Assets Administration (WAA) turned it over to local government. Once turned over to the City of Torrance it was renamed Zamperini Field on December 7, 1946.
