Zakho International Stadium
Zakho International Stadium ( Arabic: ملعب زاخو الدولي, Kurdish: یاریگەها نێودەولەتیا زاخۆ) is a multi-purpose stadium in Zakho, Iraq. It is used mostly for football matches and serves as the home stadium of Zakho FC which plays in the Iraqi Premier League. The stadium holds 25,000 people. It has 20 entrance and exit gates. The roof consists of 12,000 m2 of polycarbonate architectural panels shaded in red and white depicting the colors of the local team. Construction took 3 years (from 2012 to 2015) for a total cost of $20 million. The opening ceremony took place on Wednesday 3 June 2015 between Zakho FC and the Iraq national football team. The match ended in a 2–0 victory for the Iraq national football team, scored by captain Younis Mahmoud and Hussein Ali Wahid. Zakho
Zakho, also spelled Zaxo ( ku, زاخۆ, Zaxo, syr, ܙܵܟ݂ܘܿ, Zākhō, , ) is a city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, at the centre of the eponymous Zakho District of the Dohuk Governorate, located a few kilometers from the Iraq–Turkey border. The population of the town rose from about 30,000 in 1950 to 350,000 to 1992 due to Kurds fleeing other areas of the country. The original settlement may have been on a small island in the Little Khabur river, which flows through the modern city. The Khabur flows west from Zakho to form the border between Iraq and Turkey, continuing into the Tigris. The most important rivers in the area are the Zeriza, Seerkotik and the aforementioned Little Khabur. Raad Hammoudi
Raad Hammoudi Salman al-Aredhi ( ar, رعد حمودي سلمان العارضي; born May 1, 1958) is a retired Iraqi football player who represented his country as a goalkeeper in the Olympics and the World Cup. He is known as being the most successful goalkeeper in Iraqi football, leading Iraq to the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He made his international debut in 1976 against Turkey. Raad was an important part of the Al-Shorta side, captaining them to the Iraqi League in season 1979/80. He took three penalties for Al-Shorta, scoring two and missing one. He was goalkeeper of the tournament during Iraq's win in the 1979 Gulf Cup, when he conceded just one goal in six games, he was also in goal when Iraq won the Asian Games in 1982. The National Olympic Committee of Iraq (NOCI) ( ar, اللجنة الاولمبية الوطنية العراقية) is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) for Iraq. It was established in 1948 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee that same year. It was officially dissolved in May 2003 by L. Paul Bremer under Coalition Provisional Authority Order Number 2. but was reestablished in February 2004 with the assistance of the International Olympic Committee. Its current Director General is Tiras Odisho an ethnic Assyrian Christian, a Karate expert and coach, based in Sweden. Zakho Sport Club, also spelled as Zaxo Sport Club ( ku-2, یانا زاخو یا وهرزشی / ''Yana Zaxo ya Werzişî'') is a sports club based in Zakho, Iraqi Kurdistan. Zakho SC's biggest rivals are also their neighbours Duhok SC, with whom they contest the Bahdinan Derby. History Football in Zakho was played unofficially from the early 1920s with many local amateur games as well as school competitions regularly being held in Zakho or nearby districts. This eventually led to the formation of the first ever football team in Zakho in 1948. This was made up of local workers and young men. Younis Mahmoud Khalaf ( ar, يونس محمود خلف; born 3 February 1983) is an Iraqi former professional footballer who played as a forward for the Iraq national football team and is currently the second vice-president of the Iraq Football Association. One of the country's greatest ever players, Mahmoud captained the team for ten straight years and became an icon of Asian football.
