Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter (born April 17, 2001) is an American football guard. He played college football at Michigan, where he was a unanimous All-American and national champion in 2023. College career In 2021, Zinter was part of Michigan's offensive line that won the Joe Moore Award. At the end of the 2022 regular season, Zinter was selected by the conference coaches as a first-team offensive guard on the 2022 All-Big Ten Conference football team. All three of Michigan's interior offensive lineman (Zinter, Olusegun Oluwatimi, and Trevor Keegan) were named to the first team by the conference coaches. He was also named to the Outland Trophy watch list. Guard (gridiron Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center (American football), center and the offensive tackle, tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for Blocking (American football), blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming defensive line, linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. Joe Moore Award
The Joe Moore Award is awarded annually to the best college football offensive line unit. The award is presented by the Joe Moore Foundation for Teamwork and they state that "The Joe Moore Award for the Most Outstanding Offensive Line Unit will annually recognize the toughest, most physical offensive line in the country, making it the only major college football award to honor a unit or group. The award's namesake, Joe Moore, was a long-time offensive line coach at Notre Dame and Pittsburgh. The award was created with the help of former Notre Dame All-American offensive guard Aaron Taylor, who played for Moore. Outland Trophy
The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best college football interior lineman in the United States as adjudged by the Football Writers Association of America. It is named after John H. Outland. One of only a few players ever to be named an All-American at two positions, Outland garnered consensus All-America honors in 1898 as a tackle and consensus honors as a halfback in 1899. Outland had always contended that football tackles and guards deserved greater recognition and conceived the Outland Trophy as a means of providing this recognition. In 1988, Jim Ridlon was commissioned to design and sculpt the Outland Trophy. Trevor Keegan (born August 30, 2000) is an American football offensive guard for the Michigan Wolverines. Keegan was 2x All-Big Ten, helping Michigan win a national championship in 2023 Early life and high school career Keegan was born in 2000 and attended Crystal Lake South High School in Crystal Lake, Illinois. He was rated among the top recruits on the offensive line and received scholarship offers from multiple schools, including Georgia, Penn State, and Michigan. Olusegun Oluwatimi (born August 5, 1999) is an American football center for the Michigan Wolverines. He previously attended the University of Virginia, playing college football for the Virginia Cavaliers before graduating with a degree in economics in 2021. Oluwatimi played a final year as a graduate student for the Wolverines at the University of Michigan in 2022, where he won the Rimington and Outland Trophy.
