Alexandros Zaimis
Alexandros Zaimis ( el, Αλέξανδρος Ζαΐμης; 9 November 1855 – 15 September 1936) was a Greek politician who served as Greece's Prime Minister, Minister of the Interior, Minister of Justice, and High Commissioner of Crete. He served as Prime Minister six times, and although a leader of the monarchist faction was the third and last President of the Second Hellenic Republic. Early life and family Zaimis was born in Athens, a son of Thrasyvoulos Zaimis, a former Prime Minister of Greece, and Eleni Mourouzi. His brother was Asimakis Zaimis. On his father's side he was the grandson of Andreas Zaimis, another former Prime Minister of Greece, and related to the great Kalavrytan family with notable participation in the Greek War of Independence from 1821. Andreas Asimakis Zaimis ( el, Ανδρέας Ζαΐμης; 1791 – 4 May 1840) was a Greek freedom fighter and government leader during the Greek War of Independence. Biography Born in Kalavryta, in the northern Peloponnesos, Zaimis was a private and later leader of armed men who fought the Ottoman Turks during the Greek Revolution. In 1826, Zaimis was chosen as the leader of the interim Greek government. Eleanor Zaimis
Eleanor Christides Zaimis (16 June 1915 – 3 October 1982) was a Greek-British academic who was professor at Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, often referred to as "Nora". She was the recipient of the 1959 Gairdner Foundation International Award for study of methonium compounds and other pharmacology contributions. Zaimis was elected to the British Pharmacological Society Hall of Fame. Early life and education Zaimis was born in Galați, Romania. Her father, John Cristides worked in shipping and her mother, Helen Hanoutsos was the daughter of a landowner. She was educated at the Greek Gymnasium and graduated in medicine at the University of Athens in 1938. During the next nine years, she gained an MD and a BSc in Chemistry. Georgios Zaimis
Georgios Zaimis (, 28 June 1937 in Piraeus – 1 May 2020) was a Greek sailor and Olympic Champion. He participated at three Summer Olympics. Along with his fellow crew members of the Nireus Sailing Vessel, he was named one of the 1960 Greek Athletes of the Year. Ioannis Zaimis
Ioannis Zaimis (Greek: Ιωάννης Ζαΐμης, c. 1797–1882) was a Greek MP for Achaia and the first Mayor of Patras. He was born in about 1797 and was the son of Asimakis Zaimis, part of the famous Zaimis family that produced famous revolutionary heroes. He took part of the revolution of 1821 and battled for Patras. He married Angeliki Kanakari-Roufo. He became the first mayor of Patras in 1836 and was an antiroyalist. A year later, he would leave the mayor's seat and Ioannis Boukaouris took over as the second mayor. In the second municipal election in 1837, he was president of the municipal council. He was appointed MP for Kalavryta in 1841 and in 1843, he became a member of the municipal council again. He died on September 24, 1882. He was uncle of the Prime Minister Thrasivoulos Zaimis. Thrasyvoulos Zaimis
Thrasyvoulos Zaimis ( el, Θρασύβουλος Ζαΐμης, 1822–1880) was a Greek politician and the 21st Prime Minister of Greece. Zaimis was born in Kerpini, Kalavryta on 29 October 1822, the son of Andreas Zaimis, a soldier and government leader before the recognition of Greece's freedom from the Ottoman Empire. Zaimis studied law in France and was first elected to the Hellenic Parliament in 1850. He served four terms as President of Parliament and also as minister in several governments. In 1864, he was the representative of the Greek government who accepted the cession of the Ionian Islands from the British government, a gift that coincided with the enthronement of King George of Greece. Zaimis served two terms as Prime Minister and died in Athens on 27 October 1880.
